L-.T-TT-rv.-rri TRACK TIMES | he track season was one in which bad- ly needed experience was gained. The team, composed predominantly of freshmen and sophomores, lost many meets because of lack of experienced participants in such events as the pole vault and low hurdles. The most exciting and disappointing meet was the Bullitt Central Invitational. The highlight came when Jim Zahn broke the school record for the high jump to win the event in very close competition. This was not enough, however, as the team fell to 4th place in a meet where they had taken run- ner-up honors the year before. It is a very demand- ing test of speed and physical endurance. The race consists of a two-mile course over many types of terrain; from rocky paths to steep hills. In cross country there are no time outs and no substitutions. Once the gun goes off, it ' s mind versus body until the finish line. Unlike most sports, cross country meets are not cancelled because of rain or snow. They are cancelled only when there is lightning. The 1975 cross country season was one of the best in recent years. The team, coached by Bill Young finished above the .500 mark with a regular season record of 9-7. The team also did well in the Covington Catholic Invitational and Stuart Invitational. However, the season ended in disappoint- ment as Bishop David placed 4th in the regional meet due to injury and illness of the No. 3 and 4 runners. On October 3, 1975, the cross country team held its first home meet against Butler and won by a score of 19 to 40. Then carl I another home victory on October 15th whll P.R.P. fell 19 to 41 while the entire footbll team helped cheer the Falcons on to victotl I Gerard Senn, qualifying his third year 111 the AAA state championship, finished 15th place. Steve Sh ado wen recaptures regional singles tennis crown Steve Shadowen, on the left, congratulates Robbie Wessel following the regional tennis finals. 1976 was a very good year for the tennis team, turning in an impressive 8-5 record. Its only losses were at the hands of St. X, Trini- ty, and Waggoner. This was an improvement over last year ' s 7-7 record, even though they played a tougher schedule this year. The improvement may be attributed to the play of the freshman dynamic duo of Jeff Dalton and Tony Leveronne who turned in impres- sive individual records. This year the West Region was again swept by Bishop David. Steve Shadowen captured the singles winner trophy and Rob- bie Wessel captured the runner-up crown. Jeff Dalton and Tony Leveronne also won the doubles runner-up trophy. The Falcon fuzzballers will have big shoes to fill next year as they lost the three-year number 1 player, Robbie Wessel to gradua- tion. Wessel closed out his star-studded high school career by advancing to the quarter- finals of the state high school tournament before bowing to Murray ' s Mel Purcell. tTt VARSITY TENNIS TEAM - 1ST ROW: F.
