No crowns, but a winning record This year ' s baseball team, under new head coach, Tom McAnally, was unable to capture any crowns throughout the season, but still recorded a winning record of 17 wins and 14 losses for the regular season. The club enjoyed playing on their new ath- letic field which was built the previous sum- mer and fall. The Falcons were led by captains, Audie Milliner and Chris Hunter who contributed greatly to the offensive attack with help from catcher, Paul Newton. The defense was led by senior, Denny Conder, Jim Clayton, and junior, Kevin Skaggs. Pitching for the Falcons were Mark Clare, Chris Hunter, John Williams and Jim Clayton. Juniors Alan Ded- dens, Mike Hicks, Fred Schablik, and sopho- more, Opie Harreld, also spend some time on the mound. Fred Schablik, Tim Moreschi, Mike Ryan, Eric Ray, Bob Malloy, Greg Thieneman, and Tony Nail also performed important tasks for the team. The baseballers got off on the right track with a 4-1 record for the first 5 games only losing to a real strong Jeffersonville team. Opening day saw a 5-1 victory for pitcher, Mike Hicks, in a duel with Shawnee. In the fourth game of the season, the Falcons held off a late rally by the Iroquois Raiders to preserve a 11-9 victory. It was an important district win with Allan Deddens ' pitching and John Williams ' save. First baseman, Tim Moreschi, stands ready for the Butler pitcher ' s delivery. After he connects on a fast ball, he clouts one over the centerfield wall and is congratulated by his teammates. It was a second-inning 3-run homer which put the score at 3-0 but Butler bounced back to win 4-7. 52 BASEBALL 3swr
