Members of this small but vocal basketball fan club, Kyle Malone and Terry Nail, lead the cheers at the Doss game. BELOW: Waiting on the bench to be called into action at the Atherton gym. Randy Mingus, Ted Willett, Paul Newton, Mike Renck, Tom Payne, and Mark Clare, relax for the moment. Nonenthusiasm permeates the spirit of the game The Panthers of P. R.P., rated to win the 22nd District, took advantage of the 34 fouls called against B.D., connected on 33 of 44 free throws and won, 77-69. The Falcons traveled the next night to Ballard in their first game against this eastend power and lost, 71-51. The day after Christmas, the team went to Paducah, Ky. for the Paducah Invitational Tournament and lost in the first game against Reidland. A win against Manual stopped their four-game losing streak. But in the next outing with area rival, Western, they lost again, 59-37. The basketballers handled DeSales easily and then headed for the most exciting game of the season. With Alexander scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, and leading scorers, David Tierney and Bob Norris, chipping in 13 apiece, the unit played as a team and beat St. X 56-53 on their home court. The prestigious L I.T. tournament paired P.R.P. with B.D. in the first round. With Terry Dean ripping the nets for 21 points and Tierney right behind with 20, the team got revenge with an 18-point victory. They, however, lost out the next night to Trinity to put them out of the tournament.
