Basketballers come out on short end of Roller coaster season Besides ending up with a disappointing 1014 record, the basketball season evi- denced a decline in school spirit. With the loss of attendance early in the season, the team seemed to pick up the attitude of the school: If they don ' t care, why should we? The beginning of the 1975-76 campaign showed signs of a good season— maybe the best ever. With two starters back, David Tier- ney and Phil Mingus, and others like Bob Norris, Kevin Alexander, and Terry Dean with some experiences, there was a chance for a tremendous season. The first game of the season was against a strong Trinity team. After a poor first half, the Falcons found themselves down by 20, but in the second half fought back to within 4, eventually losing by a score of 58-54. Tierney and Alexander were the top scorers for the Falcons. The team took on highly regarded, Thomas Jefferson, in the next game and squeaked by them 63-62. The Doss Dragons again proved to be too explosive for the team to handle as they dropped another one to them 49-47. The Falcons then went to Shawnee ' s gym where, after taking the In- dians into overtime, lost 69-65, offsetting a 33-point performance by David Tierney. 42 BASKETBALL m : w

Members of this small but vocal basketball fan club, Kyle Malone and Terry Nail, lead the cheers at the Doss game. BELOW: Waiting on the bench to be called into action at the Atherton gym. Randy Mingus, Ted Willett, Paul Newton, Mike Renck, Tom Payne, and Mark Clare, relax for the moment. Nonenthusiasm permeates the spirit of the game The Panthers of P. R.P., rated to win the 22nd District, took advantage of the 34 fouls called against B.D., connected on 33 of 44 free throws and won, 77-69. The Falcons traveled the next night to Ballard in their first game against this eastend power and lost, 71-51. The day after Christmas, the team went to Paducah, Ky. for the Paducah Invitational Tournament and lost in the first game against Reidland. A win against Manual stopped their four-game losing streak. But in the next outing with area rival, Western, they lost again, 59-37. The basketballers handled DeSales easily and then headed for the most exciting game of the season. With Alexander scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, and leading scorers, David Tierney and Bob Norris, chipping in 13 apiece, the unit played as a team and beat St. X 56-53 on their home court. The prestigious L I.T. tournament paired P.R.P. with B.D. in the first round. With Terry Dean ripping the nets for 21 points and Tierney right behind with 20, the team got revenge with an 18-point victory. They, however, lost out the next night to Trinity to put them out of the tournament.
