St. X dashes hopes MANUAL - B.D. took on district foe, Manual, in a game which was to be close to the end. The Crimsons had come off of an inspiring victory over Trinity and they be- lieved they could put it to the Falcons. The B.D. defense dimmed their hopes, however, by holding them scoreless while intercepting two Crimson passes. The Falcons still could manage only 6 points which proved to be the winning margin (6-0) and set the stage for the inevitable clash with the undefeated St. X Tigers. ST. X — The ultimate test faced the Bishop David team. The final district game against defending state champ, S.X, was the most talked about game of the year. Thou- sands of fans filled the Fairgrounds Stadium to witness this classic battle. The Falcon offense was troubled by poor field position and penalties during most of the game. The major problem was accomplishing a sus- tained drive. The Falcon offense attained 12 first downs and 253 total yards which even outdistanced the Tigers, but still, for some reason, they couldn ' t cross that goal line. The defense played well, not giving up a single yard through the air, but gradually the Tigers ate up the 174 yards on the ground for two touchdowns and the Falcons ' fate was sealed. Although many times it looked grim, the B.D. players never gave up, and threatened all the way up to the final gun. This first and only loss of the season was a heartbreaker, but the team, and especially the seniors, proved more than anyone ever expected. The 1975 Falcons were definitely WINNERS! « ABOVE: No. 35, Neil Dever, and No. 76, Mark Hyland, and No. 54, Paul Newton lead the team onto the field at the St. X game. Half way through the Butler game at Manual Stadium it looked as if the game would be called off due to the fog. It was difficult to see the other side of the field, much less the yard markers, when the fog descended on the night of the game. Our passing attack, however, was not thwarted by the murky mist. Except for this game and the Doss mud bowl game, the weather during the season was generally good.
