tldg Mt season . . . almost he 1975 edition of the Falcon foot- ball season was a team from which no one knew exactly what to expect. The team was hurt by graduation but still possessed a hope and a desire to go all the way. Many people felt that the Falcons would have a chance, although a slim one. Teams like arch rivals St. X, Trinity, and DeSales were supposed to be stacked with talent. The young Falcons were on their way, first against Shawnee at Iroquois. SHAWNEE - The team went into this game- with excitement and high hopes. The fans were hoping to see how new stars and a team as of yet, untested. The defense kept alive a tradition and gave off a bright glare of new hope for the season with its stifling play. The offense used a variety of new plays and players while racking up 43 hard-fought points. Shawnee appeared to be outmatched and did not score. MALE — The defense was overpowering in this game-, once again stacking up the Bulldogs and making them totally frustrated. WESTERN - In the first afternoon game of the year, the team was set to match county rival, Western, which supposedly had its best team in many years. The spirits were high and the first big showdown was about to take place. The Falcons scored early as senior quarterback, Phil Mingus, had one of his best days, hitting 8 or 12 passes. The ground game was just as unstoppable. But, again, the defense was outstanding with 4 interceptions while holding the Warriors to 7 yards rushing. Dy-no-m te defense prevails DESALES — Catholic rival, DeSales was next to step in line against the mighty Fal- cons in the annual Keg Game. DeSales, with Jim Kennedy as their new coach, was a much-improved team, as well as a highly regarded one. Both teams played good ball and Bishop David could only manage ten points from the stubborn Colts, while allow- ing them none. The Falcons seemed on their way, while setting a new defensive record of five consecutive shutouts. The Falcons ' defensive unit, directed by Coach Dan Leasor, had much to do with the team ' s fine 11-1 record. The unit was the No. 1 defense in the state of Kentucky, giving up only 27 points in 12 games. They also set 4 new school records and tied one. They were: the least yards given up rushing (510), most fumbles caused (32), most shut- outs in a season (9), and the most consecu- tive shutouts (5). The record which was tied was the least touchdown passes thrown against the Falcons ' secondary (1).
