tldg Mt season . . . almost he 1975 edition of the Falcon foot- ball season was a team from which no one knew exactly what to expect. The team was hurt by graduation but still possessed a hope and a desire to go all the way. Many people felt that the Falcons would have a chance, although a slim one. Teams like arch rivals St. X, Trinity, and DeSales were supposed to be stacked with talent. The young Falcons were on their way, first against Shawnee at Iroquois. SHAWNEE - The team went into this game- with excitement and high hopes. The fans were hoping to see how new stars and a team as of yet, untested. The defense kept alive a tradition and gave off a bright glare of new hope for the season with its stifling play. The offense used a variety of new plays and players while racking up 43 hard-fought points. Shawnee appeared to be outmatched and did not score. MALE — The defense was overpowering in this game-, once again stacking up the Bulldogs and making them totally frustrated. With this 14-0 shutout victory, the team was background pictuf a serious contender for the rest of the sea- T ' e r ney catches a Mingu □ «k-[ unuui iu nuiURE: End, David Tierney catches a Mingus pass in mid-air behind a helpless Central defender. WESTERN - In the first afternoon game of the year, the team was set to match county rival, Western, which supposedly had its best team in many years. The spirits were high and the first big showdown was about to take place. The Falcons scored early as senior quarterback, Phil Mingus, had one of his best days, hitting 8 or 12 passes. The ground game was just as unstoppable. But, again, the defense was outstanding with 4 interceptions while holding the Warriors to 7 yards rushing. The Falcons wound up with 32 points while recording their third straight shutout in as many gameSj IROQUOIS - Bishoflj %L had its of- fense in gear again while Bl g 375 yards against the outclassed Raiders. The defense picked up its fourth consecutive shutout while remaining undefeated. The Falcons gained momentum with this contest and was looking forward to a great year with this l O
