Aftet school the wotk goes on MRS MARY MOLL: Secretarial Assistant. MR. JAMES McGEE: Maintenance Engineer. 1!HLI MRS. BETTY McGRATH: Athletic Department Secretary. 4 A. S MRS. RITA CLAYTON: Attendance Secretary. O orr| e people think that the clean build- ing of which Bishop David has always been proud just happens. Those who arrived for school at the 8:10 bell and left at the last bell seldom saw what went on behind the scenes when the building cleared. Student workers and work-study B.D. alumni from Bellarmine College got out into the halls, classrooms, offices, and restrooms and scrubbed up. All of this was done under the watchful eye of the head maintenance engineer, Mr. James McGee. In the early morning hours, the first ones at school were the cafeteria ladies who came early so that lunch could be served by as early as 1 1:05 a.m. Other very improtant jobs were done be- hind the scenes while students were in the classrooms. Mrs. Lavinia Osborne busied her- self with bookkeeping chores throughout the day, while Mrs. Betty McGrath worked in the Athletic Department as secretary. The most evident of all groups was the secretarial staff in the main office. Mrs. Pat Hicks arrived in the fall to take over as the principal ' s secretary and the faculty ' s Gal Friday. Mrs. May Moll also worked in the main office on a part time basis along with several work-study girls from Bellarmine. Mrs. Rita Clayton helped out with the attendance records in the mornings, giving out late slips and absence slips. All of these people added to the efficient running of school business throughout the ever-increasing busy days in the office. The larger the student body the more paper work was required. The team was hurt by graduation but still possessed a hope and a desire to go all the way. Many people felt that the Falcons would have a chance, although a slim one. Teams like arch rivals St. X, Trinity, and DeSales were supposed to be stacked with talent. The young Falcons were on their way, first against Shawnee at Iroquois. SHAWNEE - The team went into this game- with excitement and high hopes. The fans were hoping to see how new stars and a team as of yet, untested. The defense kept alive a tradition and gave off a bright glare of new hope for the season with its stifling play. The offense used a variety of new plays and players while racking up 43 hard-fought points. Shawnee appeared to be outmatched and did not score. MALE — The defense was overpowering in this game-, once again stacking up the Bulldogs and making them totally frustrated. The spirits were high and the first big showdown was about to take place. The Falcons scored early as senior quarterback, Phil Mingus, had one of his best days, hitting 8 or 12 passes. The ground game was just as unstoppable. But, again, the defense was outstanding with 4 interceptions while holding the Warriors to 7 yards rushing.
