Aftet school the wotk goes on MRS MARY MOLL: Secretarial Assistant. MR. JAMES McGEE: Maintenance Engineer. 1!HLI MRS. BETTY McGRATH: Athletic Department Secretary. 4 A. S MRS. RITA CLAYTON: Attendance Secretary. O orr| e people think that the clean build- ing of which Bishop David has always been proud just happens. Those who arrived for school at the 8:10 bell and left at the last bell seldom saw what went on behind the scenes when the building cleared. Student workers and work-study B.D. alumni from Bellarmine College got out into the halls, classrooms, offices, and restrooms and scrubbed up. All of this was done under the watchful eye of the head maintenance engineer, Mr. James McGee. In the early morning hours, the first ones at school were the cafeteria ladies who came early so that lunch could be served by as early as 1 1:05 a.m. Other very improtant jobs were done be- hind the scenes while students were in the classrooms. Mrs. Lavinia Osborne busied her- self with bookkeeping chores throughout the day, while Mrs. Betty McGrath worked in the Athletic Department as secretary. The most evident of all groups was the secretarial staff in the main office. Mrs. Pat Hicks arrived in the fall to take over as the principal ' s secretary and the faculty ' s Gal Friday. Mrs. May Moll also worked in the main office on a part time basis along with several work-study girls from Bellarmine. Mrs. Rita Clayton helped out with the attendance records in the mornings, giving out late slips and absence slips. All of these people added to the efficient running of school business throughout the ever-increasing busy days in the office. The larger the student body the more paper work was required. MRS LAVINIA OSBORNE: Bookkeeper. -:• ;: ' .•: ■ CAFETERIA LADIES LEFT TO Mrs Viola Stenger, and Mrs. Hallie West- RIGHT: Mrs. Regina Steffan, Mrs. erman. Spectel pto$t$m meets special needs Teaching the basics of TV camera work, Mr. Tim Hyland is perched atop the field house on field day. With him are Warren Carley, Jim Hawkins, and John Tucker, keeping watchful eyes through the viewfinder. f oom 212 was the home base of a special educational program headed by Mr. Tim Hyland. It consisted of 22 freshmen and 11 sophomores whose learning difficulties and need for special help in certain basics prompted the initiation of the program. The students took courses in English, math, science, history, and reading in Room 212 and 206, but went to the gym for P.E. and other classrooms for Health and religion. The freshmen also took art. The freshmen took English from Miss Charlotte M iller, reading from Mr. Tom McAnally, and math and science from Mr. Tim Hyland. A typing course was added to their English course on a part time basis. The sophomores took math, science and English from Mr. Hyland; reading and world history from Mr. Tom McAnally and Mr. Leo Tierney. A special crew was formed by Mr. Tim Hyland to run the video tape cam- era and recorder. These students learned the basics of camera work and recorded events for the school, such as, football games, bas- ketball games, and field day activities. The philosophy of this program was to give special help to these students but at the same time for them to cover the same courses other students in their grade level had, only in a different way. Also, Mr. Hy- land ' s constant supervision and help was guidance for them. The faculty who worked in the program sometimes considered it a family type atmosphere where students were challenged to do their very best, but given the time and individual help they needed, and teachers, team teaching together, satis- fied student needs. Mr. Hyland ' s science classes put theory to practice one day when they cleaned up the school grounds after studying a unit on cleaning up the environ- ment. LEFT TO RIGHT Chuck Cox, Jay Kiefer, Steve Buiba, and Dennis Lancaster. 29 HYLAND ' S PROGRAM
