Theme For the first time since the founding of Bishop Conaty Memorial High School in 1923, we are privileged to have among us our Eucharistic King. Around the chapel then, the heart and center of our school, we weove the theme of Pallium '59. Table Administration Classes . . Sodality . . Cver the years the faculty composed of diocesan priests and sisters from several of our Religious Communities have coordinated their efforts most diligently and successfully in formulating and training the young women of our fair City . The Alumnae of the High School is large, it is most grateful and loyal, and it is ever appreciative of the manifold blessings received through this now memorable school. Bishop Conaty Memorial High School stands forth as a monument, as a citadel in the heart of our City . It suggests to us the words spoken by Our Lord to St. John the Baptist, when He said: What went you out into the desert to see? - a reed shaken with the wind? But what went you out to see? - a man clothed in soft garments? Behold, they that are clothed in soft garments are in the houses of kings. But what went you out to see? - a Prophet? Yea, and I tell you, more than a Prophet, for this is he of whom it is written - ' Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before me.' Bishop Conaty Memorial High School has been and is a St. John the Baptist in its ministry to a proud and worthy Alumnae. Faithfully yours in Christ, ARCHBISHOP of Los Angeles S HIS EMINENCE, JAMES FRANCIS CARDINAL McINTYRE, ARCHBISHOP OF LOS ANGELES, is interviewed by Joanne Ashimoto ond Cherie Courtois. i 1 .fgclminififrafion ,M ymff, 'YL gf 1 ,. -sf we fri N I X f Q, 7 ,! The particular title of Our lady, Seat of Wisdom, was chosen as a theme or pat- tern to be followed by you, the students, in your school life at Bishop Conaty High School. Each day all of us hope to attain a little more wisdom. This is the real goal of a sound education. Wisdom is more than knowledge of the arts and sciences. It is a power of judging rightly and following the soundest course of action. Perhaps it could be described as the virtue which draws together all of the experiences that we encounter in life. Sacred Scripture gives a beautiful description of the way to rightfully attain wisdom: nThe beginning of wisdom is the Fear of the lord.N It is this type of wisdom which we pray will come to you. Right Judgment is a vital part in making decisions. When God's point of view is kept first in the making of decisions, a wrong one will never be made. May Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, guide you to rightful decisions and be your constant guardian in all that you do. God bless you, M1435 Uleverendl John J. Strange as this may sound, you have been teaching during your four years at Conaty. Be it ever so indirect, your influence has affected many-one another, students from other classes, even the faculty. All have been the recipients of that teaching which has come through your example. I hope you have been conscious of this fact, and l trust you will not lose sight of it. Your influence-good or bad-has been widely felt. As you leave Conaty to take your place as more mature young women among our alumnae, your .role as teachers will continue. Only now your influence will be far wider, for your potential is beyond our ability to estimate. With all humility let your personal example teach and show what is truly Catholic living. Show those with whom you associate that those Christian virtues which all men admire so greatly in women are not a mere Utopian ideal to be admired from afar, but a reality which you can indeed attain. Let your lives serve as proof of this accomplishment. May God bless and keep each of you. Your friend in Christ, J,-:eo I2 Father Jose artoris 'mr' 'Q ml ll X Sf' X1 x, f SISTER MARY ROBERT, C.S.J. Senior Class President Delia Salas. Leaving Conaty we know that we will always re- member these past four years. Under the vigilance of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom they have been progressive years, a time for seeking our goal-Catholic woman- hood. To you, Mother of Wisdom, we Conadettes offer you silent and humble gratitude for the many blessings you have obtained for us -For the constant and paternal guidance of Father Weyer and Father Reilly. -For the inspiration and prayers of the faculty. -For the understanding and love of our par- ents. -For the loyalty and interest of our fellow students. --For the privilege of having your Son on cam- pus during our senior year. -For the numerous unknown sacrifices made for us. And as we assemble for the final time, we implore your continued solicitude. Perfect our love for your Son, help us to continue to grow in Wisdom and keep strong the bond of friend- ship and respect that exists in the Class of '59.
