Californio PAGE FROM A DIARY Going home with just Enough money to pay the ticket Agent and exchange necessities With women anchored to the Half hour rest stops, the excursionist Leaves his visions of a I.ong untouched birthplace under The scat on the bus With cigarette butts and other Articles left behind by Those before him And postpones the journey to Pick fiowers from the gardens Of small towns along the way Where safe people w ith professional Smiles welcome him into homes Where he can never belong. I cannot explain what I feel inside, nor can I decipher what I see on the outside, boiling hot with emotions. I run. Where.
