Dear Faculty and Fellow Students, I had the great privilege to spend the school year T964-65 in the United States and to study here at Bishop Carroll High School as a scholarship student in the senior class. I want to thank all my American friends for their wonderful hospitality and especially Father Malloy for accepting me at BCHS. ' fin, It was a great year for me to stay with an American family, Mr. and Mrs. Reidelbach, and to study with American students, and to live the way American people live. At the very beginning there was some diffi- culty, of course, not only that I was lost in the large buildings of BCHS- and once came late to Physics class-but also the different kind of school system, tests, teachers, and marking. As I never had obiective tests be- fore, 'I repeated the statements when I had my first obiective test instead of true and false as answers. The marks were for me upside down for the higher your marks the worse you are in Austria! CAustria is my native country.J I had only lay teachers Cexcept in religioni and school was from 8 a.m. to I p.m. including Saturdays. My studies included twelve subjects a year-a must! Although this was my first time away from home-and so far away- I hardly became homesick due to the help of my teachers, friends and host family. I hope to keep in contact with all of you when I return to Europe, and that you will think of me, and I will of you, so that our thoughts meet in the middle of the Atlantic. -Ernestine Juliana Schlacher Ryfhw uffczcllmil Alma Mater XWQKIAMQW 72024 Hail to thee, our torch of truth, f 7 , Beacon which inspires our youth, rxild me As we grow keep us in sight, Blessing e'er with wisdom's might.
