We, the Senior Class of 1964, wish to express our deepest appreciation to His Excellency, the Most Reverend J. Carroll McCormick, Bishop of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese for his contribu- tion to our development as young Catholic men and women. lt was through His Excellency's guidance that the doors of Bishop Carroll High School were opened to us three years ago. As sophomores, vve.were brought together as one separate high school. This made it possible for students from over forty parishes to be served by a centrally located Catholic High School. Bishop .l. Carroll McCormick has given us the opportunity to acquire Christ-like qualities through these four years of Catholic education. We will continually strive to keep them as attributes to our individual personalities. Bishop of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese 1-nf REVEREND FABER J. MALLOY Principal of Bishop Carroll High School Behold, I have caused a door to be opened before thee which no one can shut . . . Apoc- alypse Ill, 8 Congratulations to you, young men and women of the Class of '64, upon your graduation from a Catholic school where you have been trained to be good citizens ot your country and future saints of heaven. Baptism opened the door of your souls for the reception of all the graces of God. Your Catholic education has opened that door further by teach- ing the many truths of your Faith to guide you along Life's path. lt is my hope and prayer that you will always cherish your Faith and your Catholic education- that you will put into practice the many truths you have learned during your high school years. Let nothing-trials or disappointments or sut- terings-close that door, rather, proceed from door to door-ascend step by step to your eternal commencement of a life with God in heaven. May God bless you, our dear Mother Mary guide you, and good St. Joseph protect you all the days of your life. 7? 51 i .. f X , f X . 37,1 L, l 2 X f lf' wav' REV. THOMAS MABON SR. MARY PAUL, S.S.J. Vice-Principals The vice-principals of our high school have the double Task of aiding and guiding both students and faculty. Father Thomas Mabon and Sister Mary Paul, S.S.J. have worked Tirelessly This year, with in- dividual members of the faculty and The student loody, and with The Student Council, in fulfilling Their duties as assistants To Father Malloy. They also assumed The responsibility of defining and enforcing The rules so That order and discipline should prevail Throughout Bishop Carroll High School. We shall always be grateful To Them for Their example, understanding and insight into our prob- lems as students. Conversation between Sister Mary Paul and Sister Ann Bernadette is in terrupted by The ring of The phone. yr i Boys sTop for an informal Talk with Father Mabon. Left To Right: Robert Evon, John Gaudlip, Daniel Taddei, Thomas Terza, William Sybert, Stephen Michaels. I2 BCHS Faculty members are in session for a regular meeting. The faculty at Bishop Carroll High School has revealed doors which are open to the inquisitive and ever-searching minds of the students. The teachers themselves have been the greatest door through which we have been given every opportunity to develop our sublime and ideal- istic Divine Character. As well as having imparted us with wisdom, un- derstanding, and counsel, they have further directed us with reproof and discipline. They have in effect sowed the seed which puts Christ closer to the hearts of us all. They have ultimately fulfilled the purpose of a teacher, which according to the wisdom of Solomon is, To know wisdom, and instruction, to understand the words of prudence, and to receive the instruction of doctrine, iustice and iudgment and equity, to give subtility to little ones, to the young man knowledge and understanding. To our faculty we, the graduating class, extend our most sincere grati- lude and prayers' SR MARY DAMIAN SSJ L...i M' 1 SR. MARIE CELINE, S.S..l. REV. Carl Quinn, O.F.M., gave us another opportunity to increase in virtue and to reflect upon 3 our future plans. Weekly Mass was made available to the student body this year, giving us the privilege of receiving Holy Communion at school. ,A With the beginning of Lent, the senior class initiated a daily adora- tion program making it possible for students to use the chapel during their study periods. 72 These senior altar boys took their privileged turn at serving Mass during the year. '1 1 On graduation day the 1964 seniors culminated Their four years of study and Training in Bishop Carroll High School. Assisting at their Graduation Mass, they thanked God for His many blessings throughout their high school development. As they received their diplomas from Bishop McCormick, they realized the degree of ma- turity they have thus far attained. Now these graduates can confidently undertake fresh challenging courses through lite so that, on some future graduation day, they may be able to say like St. Paul: l have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. For the rest there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord, the lust Judge, will give to me in that day. The long hours of study and training can really be considered worthwhile on the annual Bishop Carroll Awards Night. On this night, our Principal Father Malloy and the many guests who represent the awarding organi- zations present the honors to the graduates with the highest averages, the scholarship winners, those who received certificates in forensics and seminars, the Na- tional Honor Society inductees, and all of the graduates in general. 73 3lg'5 T'iiW fl ' E -1. The diligent body, composed of two elected representatives from each of the four classes, functions directly with the ad- ministration to organize and oversee all student activities. This past year the Student Council maintained a calendar of events and assigned earnest projects to the various classes. The seniors, for example, were responsible for promoting the religious atmosphere of the school. The council also conducted the year's student elections and sponsored many social events that will long pro- vide cherished memories for the members of the student body. l - - . 1 -- 1 . . l l l 1 - l ' ' i T i These Senior Home Room Representatives presented our Views to the Student Council. !Seated2: T. The dream of a marching band at Bishop Carroll is fast becoming a reality. Our ambitious musicians have practiced many hours under the direction ot Mr. Clarence Hurrell and, by their splendid performance in the second annual band concert, proved this practice to be worthwhile. In addition, these same musicians have en- tertained at pep rallies and have provided moral support at footballgames. ln view of these achievements, we are anxiously awaiting the final moment when our band will represent Bishop Carroll in all the colorful, exciting moments ot regular band competition. H- liill ,,, fl i' NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The Bishop Carroll Cor Christi Chapter ot the National Honor Society is composed of iunior and senior stu- dents who have possessed and demonstrated tour basic qualities in their environmental life at B.C.H.S. These students have exhibited scholarship, with an academic average of not less than eighty-tive per cent, leadership and service as certified members of the subordinate Leadership and Service Clubs, and character, with an en- dorsement ot the faculty. For their annual project, the Cor Christi Chapter members have organized a vocational department in the school library. The officers of the National Honor Society discuss some 'Future plans with their advisor Fr. Gaus. Its purposes are to form Christian leaders of virtuous characters and to christianize teenage society by training its members as student apostles. A regular Y.C.S. meeting consists of a liturgy discussion and a social inquiry. During the discussion, the students analyze some passages from Sacred Scripture. In the inquiry they discuss the facts, causes, and efforts of various con- ditions atfronting teenage society and decide upon a course of group action designed to improve these conditions among themselves and their classmates. JOUR ALISM The Journalism Club, in its first year ot operation, had the arduous assignment of publishing a regular school news- paper. During the first semester of the school year, the club was organized and orientated in the proper methods of producing a quality newspaper. Then in the second semes- ter, the training proved to be worthwhile as the Carroll Crier began to roll off the presses in monthly editions. The Carroll Crier serves the student body as the main news medium for all phases of life at B.C.H.S. Through the editorials and the feature and human interest articles, it provides an excellent opportunity tor students to express themselves creatively and enlivens a more energetic school spirit among the students. ' 193- Sister Melita outlines the next edition of the Carroll Crier with Pat Zablinsky, art editor, and co-editors, Lellie Fulchiero and Tony Skomra. l i The Crier writers smile with satisfaction at the completion of their first edition. These reporters keep us informed of all the latest happenings around B.C. Our newspaper staff gathers to discuss the response of the student body to the sale got the paper. W l i B.C. Leaders are made, not born. They are the product of diligent effort, determined hope, self-inflicting sacrifice, and con- tinued perseverance. Their ultimate goal is excellence, in truth and in character. Thus the shadowed students at B.C.H.S., not yet possessing any titles, diplomas, or degrees ot success, honor, or achievement, are laboring and studying outside of the spotlight ofthe world to eventually become its guiding light. Since they are learning the truth and developing their characters through the educational processes of their school, they have an acute feeling of loyalty to Bishop Carroll High School in all of its endeavors, for it is, to them, theh' stepping stone into immortality. Gill, J. Krumen acker, E. Lieb, T. Krise. l23 As we graduate, we glance back to evaluate our accomplishments during four years at Bishop Carroll High School. These have been profitable years because of the counsel, discipline, and instruction we have received. We anticipate the op- portunities and difficulties which lie ahead, we have been prepared well through the guidance and patience of the faculty. May we remember that one door will always remain open to us-the door to the tabernacle. Through this door we find our strength for the future, we find Christ the model of character, we will find Christ-our happiness in Heaven. After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the former voice, which I had heard as of a trumpet speaking with me, said, 'Come up hither and I will show thee the things that must come to pass hereafter!
