The op- portunity to develop that capacity has been ours during the years we spent as students of Bishop Byrne High School. The review of the ac- tivities of these happy years and the memory of the lessons learned therein will keep alive the spirit of a Christopher . From Freshmen f registration to Senior Farewells the scenes of high school life will help us to recall that the happiness and success of future living will always depend upon our giving and sharing -as we have during these years spent together. To encourage you to hold to the ideals of true Christian living and to offer anew the challenge: You can change the world , we Seniors of 1951. .I 'lffiillf '7Ae 1951 r C0-EDITORS BUSINESS MANAGERS ,ludy Boultinghouse Louis Broussard Judy Williams Ray Budwine ASSISTANT EDITORS ASST. During the four years of our high school these Sisters have labored unceasingly to instill into our minds the light of God's Truth to guide us in the way of Christ-like living. Intellectually, they have given us sound mental trainingg morally, they have guided us hy religious principlesg culturally, they have provided for us opportunity to develop the talents and abilities that are God-given giftsg and they have provided for us the means to develop physically by the use of healthful exercise and play. Their guidance has helped us to attain the goals of true Christian livingg their encouragement has helped us in the small difficulties of daily lifeg their example has inspired us in every moment of these happy years. She enjoys bowling and is an ardent football fan. HCT favorite subjects are shorthand and typing. fadmfi Donald Sonnier A love for talking marks Donald as one of our happy-go-lucky fellows. He can be ser- ious, however, and, although he was out- stripped in grade points by girls he held the highest average for the boys. Donald's vocal chords established him as an ideal person to lead the Rosary at Mass every day, a task which he fulfilled faithfully during his four years in high school. He was also a letterman on the Shamrock Football Team. After graduation Donald intends to enter A. 81 M. College. V7 X 2' George Roceaforte Big and quiet. seen rather often. but scl- tllllll heard, sums up George pretty thor- oughly. For favorite subjects he picked chemistry and geometry. lle loves to play football but had rather sit on the sidelines and watch his other loveebasketball. George has a generous disposition which makes him a favorite with all his fellow students. As chairman of the Junior Class Activity programs. he has served faithfully for the year. He has no definite plans for the future except that he looks forward to graduation. Uufafan ing Angelina Aranda Known as an excellent student of the Jun- ior Class. this dark-haired girl had a hard time deciding which of her subjects were her favorites. She did pick typing and bookkeeping after much thought. Football is her favorite sport. we must say to at- tend. rather than play. She is an active member of the Sodality being Publicity Chairman. ln her spare time she collects picture post cards and does a little danc- ing. Looking ahead of graduation next year, Angelina has planned to continue her business training probably at Port Arthur College. N F Q' 1 W 0 Q 4 M agi- , S ,6l 31 ' . E . J. Foulkes, S. J., as their Retreat Master. Father Foulkes is of Irish birth-a double honor for the Shamrorks and Colleens of our school. He lived in North Wales from the age of 3 to 12, and from there, he went to England and France to study. Inci- dentally, Father is a wizard in the four R's -namely, Reading, 'Rit- ing, 'Rithmetic, and Religion. After hearing his wonderful sermons, there is no doubt at all left in the minds of our high school students on how to answer questions concerning our Religion. Father explained the origin and reason for the use of bread and wine as Our Savior's Body and Blood so thoroughly that-woe betide any non- Catholic who dares question it! SCICCUHS Father Foulkes is a member of the Jesuit Spiritual Order, as the S. J. following his name sig- Reading nifies. But he insisted with his blue eyes twinkling, that S. J. meant soft job. After the retreat, Father said: Summing up the whole retreat is an answer to the invitation of Christ the King in words tak- en from William Shakespeare, 'Master, go on! And I will follow Thee to the last gasp with Faith and loyalty.' The most dramatic part of the Retreat was the swearing of all the students to 6'Follow Christ , to the Sisterhood, Priesthood, or in the married life, or single-state. From left to right are Bobby Ledet, an adept quarterback, Raymond Meyers, the fullback powerhouse of the gridiron squad- ron, Walter Boudreaux, lanky quarter- back who controls the pivot maneuvers in this department, and Jimmy Bourgeois, hard-running, boisterous halfback. QC' 9 LEDET ON THE LOOSE! Here is seen Bobby Ledet, scampering touchdown-bound, while struggling for a lead in the annual Byrne-St.Thomas game A key block, thrown by Shamrock tackle, Frank Darby, Qalso seen in the picturej, aided Bobby on his touchdown surge. 5 a WI-IAT'L I DO? WHAT'L I D4 In a bad fix is senior Sam Durso wl holds down the end position and often a ternates in the backfield. Sam seems have lost contact with his blockers in tl tussle between Port Neches and Byrr however he managed to somehow elude l tacklers for a short time. It is when a ru ner finds himself in a predicament like tl one that he realizes the importance blocking to a ball club. Durso has acqu ed the title of 'Gluefingers' because of l ability to catch almost any pass.
