James W. Dolan, Headmaster Of the educational programs available to the Catholic Community, I believe that Bishop Boyle High School affords one of the best opportunities to realize the gospel message revealed by God which the Church proclaims; fellowship in the life of the Holy Spirit and service to the Christian Community and the entire human community. In this way, our students will not only learn subjects required for graduation, but will be able to become the best person that God calls them to be. Sister Mary Lou Palas S.C. Science, Vice-Principal: I am very happy to be a part of Boyle High School and its educational endeavors. In my eight years here, I have seen remarkable growth in the students and their rela- tionship with each other and with the faculty and admin- istration. Here at Boyle we have many very dedicated teachers and truly beautiful Christian youth. May all of you continue to grow and develop according to God's plan. A Elizabeth Brunetti B.S. On either side of the salmon is a cross taken from the Coat Of Arms of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, in which our school is located. On the left side of the Coat Of Arms are three black diamonds, re- presenting the steel industry of Homestead, geographic location of Boyle. The right side contains the sword of St. Paul, the patron of the Diocese. The sword is surmounted by a crown of achievement, to recall the spiritual, scholastic, aesthetic, and athletic ideals for which stu- dents must strive. On the right side of the ring is the Lancer, the mascot of Bishop Boyle High School. The Lancer is a symbol of challenge ... Carl Bour receives his class ring. 57 In Loving Memory Of Diane Canofari Diane Canofari March 4, 1964 - July 20, 1984 It Is A Beauteous Evening It is a beauteous evening, calm and free. The holy time is quiet as a Nun Breathless with adoration; the broad sun Is sinking down in its tranquility; The gentleness of heaven broods o'er the Sea: Listen! the mighty Being is awake And doth with his eternal motion make A sound like thunder—everlastingly. Dear Child! dear Girl! that walkest with me here, If thou appear untouched by solemn thought. Thy nature is not therefore less divine: Thou best in Abraham's bosom all the year; And worship'st at the Temple's inner shrime, God being with thee when we know it not. Wm. Wordsworth 58 YEAR ata glance AROUND BOYLE Living Stations As is custom, Boyle performed the Living Stations during Lent this year. The students travelled from church to church throughout the diocese every Wednesday and Friday for five weeks. As usual the Concert Choir provided a sacred and solemn atmosphere for the stations. At exactly 7:00 p.m., the ceremonies began. Sr. Mary Lou opened with a prayer followed by Karen Sabo, Valedictorian, with her speech of the fu- ture. The Salulatorian, Karen Munch recaped our four happy, uniform, and fine years at Boyle. Then the presentations of the diplomas. Each graduate awaited egarely for thier turn. After the diplomas were given, Bernie Sullivan, president of the Senior Class, gave a speech of reconigna- tion to Lori Shimko. As representative of the senior class Marilyn Kraus presented a bouquet of flowers to Lori on behalf of all the seniors. Joe Stamerra was then asked to read a speech written by Lori acknowledging all her friends, family, and all who had contributed to her high morale. The students received the speech with a standing ovation. The final blessing came from Bishop Vincent Leonard with congadulations and good luck to each departing Senior. no 84 111 TOP: Guy receives his diploma. But, somehow, we find time for classes, work, lunch, cheering, and friends. Every adult says these are the best years of our lives and we shouldn't be to egar for graduation to come. It's not that we want this year to end, because we are tired of school—we want it to end because we are just tired. Most of us will look back on this year as one of the best we ever had, but let us sleep first! I was thinking the other day, most of my teachers would say fin- aly, about last year and the changes I went through. It was a tough year and I did work hard, but, it was a fun year too. I was thinking about how I al- ways seemed to get caught in the halls during classes. Did a light go on somewhere when my foot touched the floor? Of course I did get away with a few good ones. I suppose things worked out pretty well after all. Not physiognomy alone nor brain alone is worthy for the Muse, I say the Form complete is worthier far. The Female equally with the Male I sing. Of Life immense in passion, pulse, and power. Cheerful, for freest action form'd under the laws divine The Modern Man I sing. by Walt Whitman
