Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1980 volume:

PHOTOGRAPH A photograph is more than just... A gift to bring or send ... And more than just the likeness of ... A rela- tive or a friend ... It is a kindly greet- ing and ... A memory to hold ... Of happy times and pleasant things ... However new or old . . . It is a mirror that reflects . . . Companionship and cheer . . . And now and then the wistfulness... That turns into a tear. A photograph is something to ... Adorn a desk or wall... Or carry in a pocket and .. . Display to one and all ... It is a faithful portrait of ... The smile that friendship shares ... To add its sunshine and to show ... That someone really cares. by James Metcalefe HOW IT WAS: BOYLE 1980 Contents Faculty Athletics Clubs Seniors Underclassmen 3 We recognize that to provide for the special atmosphere animated by the gospel spirit of freedom and charity it is incumbent on the fac- ulty to continuously strive for a deep fraternal bond among themselves which will be extended to the students through a genuine concern for their needs. We allow freedom for the young people to make decisions, to plan and organize their activities, and to take responsibility for their mistakes without abdi- cating authority and responsibility on the part of the faculty. We try, then to exercise both freedom, not license, and authority in a spirit of charity in the hope of producing citizens trained in self-discipline and responsibility. Coupled with our attempt to provide the proper atmosphere, we provide for the total growth of our students through a well rounded curriculum, sports, social, cultural, religious and parish activities. Further, we conceive of this total growth as including the formation of a true sense of values — spiritual, moral, cul- tural. Recognizing that the environmental fac- tors of home, neighborhood, and the commu- nications media exert as powerful an influence on the students as we do by our classroom instruction, we work closely with parents and community organizations in our effort to encourage and strengthen our students’ appreciation for what is lasting, true, and beau- tiful.
