Teacher-pupil relationships grow into person-to-person interactions in class and extracurricular affairs. Christian growth is the bond between faculty and students to provide a circuit of communications. Both are linked five hours in an association to learn relevant concern and vibrant involvement with each other. They found that additions to the academic program were Sew- ing classes under Mrs. Kratzenberg and Advanced Biology under Sister Judith. Because study halls were eliminated students having a free period spent it in the library or cafeteria. For many students this year meant they were no longer required to take a science, math, or language course, provided they had earned the minimum number of credits necessary for graduation. Many teachers and department heads strove to make classes more fulfilling through the use of audio-visual aids and other teach- ing techniques. Sports is one of the most enjoyable roads travelled at Boyle. Sweat and hard work characterize each step of this physically competitive path. The coaches instill sports- manship into the boys while the student body produces loyalty and support. As a result, rather than emphasizing only statistics Lancer teams and fans learn the simple satisfaction of playing. Every stride on this Sports road leads the athlete further towards growth as an individual. SPORTS Turtle Creek 7—Boyle 6 It was a hard-fought game that could have gone either way. A few breaks in our favor would have made the difference. 54 Greensburg 21—Boyle 6 We played well in a game for the Catholic league ‘B’ title and went down fighting. Boyle 29—Serra 0 In a tough battle with our traditional rivals we were ‘up’ for the game and beat the hell out of them. Brentwood 22—Boyle 15 After taking an early lead we fell behind as the Brentwood team came back strong. Boyle 14—Mon Valley 13 They gave us a real fight for our Homecoming game. But we stuck it to ’em and pulled it out. New Brighton 38—Boyle 12 The Lions were bigger and tougher—we just couldn’t get it together. Bellevue 48—Boyle 12 They outplayed us in every way. Boyle 20—Carrol 13 We didn’t look sharp in the first half but we came back to stomp ’em in the second half. Jeanette 36—Boyle6 The Jay hawks were on their way to a class ‘AA’ title but we just couldn’t hold them. Junior Varsity FRON1' ROW: Richard Mader, Dennis Pavasko, Thomas Fox, .Jack Cain. Highland Ave. Pittsburgh, Pa. 15206 Phone 661-9999 The clubs at Boyle began with a new phase of interest. Some of the newly initiated clubs included Badminton, Banner and Poster, Chess, and Ecology. Former clubs were revived, such as Forensics, Girls Athletic League, Folk Group, and the News- paper. A few of the older but somewhat modified clubs con- sisted of Film Study, Pep Club, Glee Club, Yearbook, Red Cross, and French Club. Along with changes in the clubs them- selves, the first period was designated as an Activity Period. Instead of devoting time after school students attended club meetings and planned upcoming events in the morning. The clubs had many enjoyable activities and performed many ser- vices throughout the year. They have offered new experiences each time the members assembled to share ideas. Fewer in num- ber than previous classes, the Freshmen still maintained their significance while becoming acquainted with sched- ules, activities, and clubs. Sophomores progressed to a revising of schedules and courses to meet the requirements for graduation. Juniors stepped to the pedestal of “Upper- classmen” on “Ring Day”—November 18th. Junior Ring Night “A ring throughout man’s history has symbolized a variety of things. It can represent power and prestige, as that of an emperor or a king, or it can represent one’s love for another as a wedding band or an engagement ring. The ring also can represent identity, birth, or homeland. A ring with one’s initials, birthstone, coat of arms, and even one’B high school, as in the case of tonight, more or less de- notes something about that person. Re- gardless of the worth of the ring whether it is from a cracker-jack box or the front window of a large jewelry store, every ring has a special meaning to the one who is wearing it. It always seems to bring back memories connected with the time the ring was given, how the ring was obtained or events associated with it. My hope this evening, is that we can recall a great number of friends and good times we have spent at BOYLE when we look upon our BOYLE HIGH SCHOOL RING.” —Laurette Smetana Section One: ROW ONE: R.
