Dedication In every age, great men have arisen to stamp an era with their character. Common to the great is a zest for living, an energetic drive, a passion for action that can be summarized in the word SPIRIT. It is the spirit of a man that makes him a leader, that makes his influence felt in ever-widening circles. Where that spirit is dynamic, properly channelled, and youthful, there is no telling how he can change the world; there is no measuring his influence on that world. Such a man, such an influence, such a force for good is Pittsburgh's school superintendent, Bishop John B. McDowell. Under his leadership, the Catholic school system of Pittsburgh has become synonymous with progress, with open mindedness, with vitality and growth. Wherever the best in educational progress is mentioned, the name of Pittsburgh’s educational leader is there. He has made the diocese the place where the action is ; in many cases, he has been in the vanguard of that action. He has dared. Because of his tremendous foresight and his faith in the future, he has had the courage to undertake tasks larger and vaster than his own lifetime. These are the qualities that we admire in our Bishop, our school superintendent. They are the qualities that most appeal to our youthful ideals, to our unhampered spirit, and to our desire for challenge. Our zest for life, like his, is great. Because he typifies for us the spirit of challenge, creativity, and resourceful- ness, the Senior class of Boyle High School dedicates this issue of BOYLE 1967 to
