TALL FLAGS Tall Flags is one of the hardest working and strongest growing performing groups on campus. They perform at halftimes during football and basketball season. They also go to many competi- tions and parades during the year. With the help of their modera- tor. Miss Nesci, they put in many long hard hours in perfecting their routines. They go to spirit camp during the summer where they compete in various competitions and with hard work they bring home many ribbons. OFFICERS: Maureen O ' Connell, Rosemary Bonnin. Ana Torralva, (moderator) Miss Nesci, (not shown) Shannon Spohn. SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is one of the largest clubs on campus and has been for some time. Its main purpose is to share the spirit and customs of the Spanish culture with all the Amat family in the in the Christian way of sharing and caring. The Spanish Club was able to extend its Christianity through the Rosary held in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and through its Christian Service project during December, which was the collection of toys for the poor children in Tijuana. OFFICERS: Cristina Valenzuela-Prcs., Lucy Gutierrez-V. Pres.. Carolina Lopez-Sec. Hyung Kang-Treas. VARSITY CLUB During the Rennaissance. it was be- lieved that strength of both mind and body was essential to the building of good character. As an example of the value of both physical and intellectual abilities is the Varsity Club. Under the leadership of Mr. Parades, the Varsity Club has engaged in many activities including cleaning up at Van Wig Day Care Center, this year ' s Chris- tian Service project, and looks forward to many equally rewarding activities in the years to come. PEP CLUB The Pep Club is very successful in promoting school spirit among the students. The different ways in which the Pep Club arouses school spirit are by organizing cheering sec- tions at most athletic events and selling pom-poms at all the football games. The club ' s community involvement Included planning a Christmas and Easter party for the elderly at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Home. Other activities the Pep Club participated In were pizza parties, a snow trip, and a trip to Knott ' s Berry Farm. OFFICERS: Shirley Baray -Pres., Ton! Baca-V. Pres., Paula Hernandez-Sec, Elsy Lucha-Treas. PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB While this year was a hallmark for the formation of new clubs many of Amafs more traditional clubs have flourished under new leadership. A fine example of this is the Bishop Amat Photography Club. This club has something for everyone who has the slightest in- terest in photojournalism: from education of the novice to prac- tice skills for the advanced pho- tographer. Aside from the fun of taking pictures and developing them, the club, under the supervision of Dr. Marsolais, also serves a useful purpose by providing many of the pictures that are printed in The Lance.
