LATIN CLUB Bishop Amat is a school built on tradition, and one of the finer examples of this is the Latin Club. The Latin Club is devoted to building an interest in the stories of ancient Rome and the Latin language. The Latin Club is a very spirited group and enjoys many activities. The Latin Club is also very much devoted to service with three Christian Service Pro- jects. Under the supervision of Sr. Mary Conheady the Latin Club is a vital part of Amat today. OFFICERS: Lisa Maddox- Sec Treas., Roanna Mill- spaugh-Pres., Dianne Knip- ping-V. Pres. NATIONAL FORENSIC LEAGUE The Speech Club is quickly becoming one of the most successful clubs on campus. Competing statewide, the speech and debate members learn and practice the skills of speaking, organization, interpretation, argumentation and analysis in a competitive environment. The club represents Amat at many tournaments and not only as been extremely successful this year, but foresees a great future for its members here at Amat and later in life. JOURNALISM CLUB Considering the Journalism Club is a brand new club on campus, they had an extremely successful year. Being that it was the club ' s first year. it was only fitting that the modera- tor. Mr. Sullivan, be new as well. The club ' s major project and most well known was the production of the school newspaper. The Lance. With eager, excited writers and edi- tors, they managed to get through the hard times to produce one out- standing paper after another. OFFICERS : Jackie Mollicone-Pres., Kitty O ' Connell-V. Pres., Karen Lundstrum-Sec, Jane Kelsay-Treas. KEY CLUB This year Amat saw the introduction of many new clubs. One of the most interesting clubs for boys is sponsored by the International Kiwanis Organization and is organized through high schools across the nation. Under the supervision of Mr. Murphy, the Key Club participated in many exciting activities and looks for- ward to even greater things in the future. OFFICERS: Michael Home. Jim Cleary. Dale Nelson, (not shown) Tom Cervantes LACIDEM CLUB In today ' s world, just as in ancient times, there is a need for people to enter medical professions. To answer this call, the Lacidem Club was formed. Supervised by Mr. Maltez. the Lacidem Club, in keep- ing with the medical professions ' devotion to service, has two Christian Service projects. They conducted a canned food drive for the poor, and organized a blood drive. They look forward to many such activities in the future. OFFICERS: Rudy Carrillo- Pres., Woo Kang-V. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society is an or- ganization which promotes academic achievements, community and school involvement. To be a member of this club, one must have at least an 85 per- cent av erage and be involved in school and community activities. OFFICERS: Karen Werner-Pres.. Kylene Partin-V. Pres., Edeanne Link-Sec. Nancy Ramirez-Treas. NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY The N.J.H.S. was founded in 1929 and was designed to encourage high standards of student performance through- out the country. This club has been in existence here at Amat since 1959. The N.J.H.S. Club emphasizes scholarship, service, and leadership. It is open to ninth and tenth graders who have an 85% academic average or better. This club promotes academic excellence while helping to develop character and the willingness to serve. OFFICERS: Stephanie Macsurak-V. Pres.. Karina Bruzzese- Sec. Terrianne Link-Treas.. (not shown) George Marquez- Pres. NATURE STUDIES The Nature Studies Club is a club of fun and learning. Once a month, the club tries to make an outing into the natural environ- ment. Typical places visited included the mountains, deserts, and tide pools: typical activities include whale watching, bird watch- ing, or just plain enjoying the outdoor plant and animal life.
