Summer Fall Activities 17 MOTHER SON DANCE 18 Summer Fall Activities In feudal times when a noble would throw a ball, the guests would come in masquerade. This custom was again revived at the Mother-Son Dance this past fall. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the MOTHER OF THE YEAR which was bestowed upon Mrs. Mendoza. (opposite page top). Summer Fall Activities 19 RALLIES OeNERATE SCHOOL SPIRIT In the Dark Ages, people would gather in throngs to hail their champion knights in combat. This ancient tradition continues today as Amat students attend rallies to cheer their victorious Lancer teams. These rallies proved to be a great success in building school spirit as well ' as aiding our teams In their quest for victory. 20 Summer Fall Activities Summer Fall Activities 21 m HOMECOMINO COURT Princess Rafaela Corella Princess Laura Lemos 22 Summer Fall Activities QUEEN MICHELLE COLUCCI Summer Fall Activities 23 HOMECOMINO HONOR COURT Jacqueline Manuel Wendy Boesen Liz Argandona Deanna Diaz 24 Summer Fall Activities M tmi A P A isc r Hft ■' I lJjPFS ' a fl HP P - Excitement was in the air as a ca- pacity crowd of alumni and students filled Keifer stadium. A dream to climb mountains, to raise buildings, to span the universe, to serve and to create. It is a dream that pushes us forward — into times of hardship and times of victory. A dream which will benefit not only ourselves but those we come in contact with as well. It is a dream of life and a dream of peace. But a dream is only a dream without action and pursuit, without spirit and work, without determination and belief. A dream needs the ambition of young men and women with the courage to be different. As yesterday ' s dreams became our realities, so must we build our dreams for tomorrow. We are the builders of those dreams. We, the 1982 graduating class of Bishop Amat, are the builders of tomorrow. -Anita Rodriguez SENIOR FAUORITES 72 Seniors Seniors 73 74 Senior ABBOTT. SANDRA lacidem 9. 10. The class of ' 85, young and eager individuals who have brought to Amat their ambitions and dreams for the years to come. The freshmen class has shown the enthusiasm and spirit that is so characteristic of Bishop Amat and so necessary to meet the challenges that life has to offer. They are the link and they are the hope to the future unknown. They are the people who take the chance to carry on what others have begun. Although times will come when progress seems slow and the efforts of these zealous freshmen seem to result in single steps, we will always know they are moving towards a greater destiny. There were many hard times but with the strong leadership of the four Associat- ed Student Body Officers-John Frazzette, Larry Bautista. Ricky Bluthenthal. and Su- san Stapleton-they managed to work through it. Of course, these leaders did not work alone, they had the help of the A.S.B. Commissioners and the A.S.B. Com- mittee. They dedicated many long hours to better the school. Together with their moderator. Mr. Guante. they worked hard to promote school spirit, participation and a Christian way of thinking among the students of Bishop Amat. Student Council organized many of this year ' s activities from rallies to Masses and from clubs to Pep Week. They have strengthened the bond between the facul- ty and the student body. The Associated Student Body has worked side by side to make the year 1981-1982 a reality. ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY OFFICERS: John Frazzette-Pres.. Ricky Bluthenthal- Treas.. Larry Bautista-V. Pres.. This year the Lacidem Club promoted Chris- tian Service by collecting cans of food from the Amat family to deliver to the Little Sisters of the Poor, in order to provide and enhance the joys of Thanksgiving. The children of Tijuana gathered in an abundance of joy in order to receive the Christ- mas gifts given to them by the Spanish Club as part of their Christian Service project. Following tradition, the Senior Class Christian Service project was to share in the gift giving season of Christmas by bringing toys to the children of Dolores Mis- sion. Christian Service 223 IN LOUINO MEMOftV 2000 years ago, Christ gave his hfe for us on a cross. He gave of himself not only that day but throughout His life. He gave not in asking but hoping that one day we would understand and follow Him. There was among us someone who did understand and who did follow, that person was Mrs. Julia Emeterio. Mrs. Emeterio gave of herself each day, both in and outside of the classroom, both when it was easy to give and when it was hard. On September 14th. Mrs. Emeterio was called to be with Christ in a place ' He had prepared for her. We the students of Bishop Amat would like to take this time to remember Mrs. Emeterio and all that she gave to the students of our school. 224 Tribute Special Report March 30, 1981 - John Hinckley Jr. attempts to assassinate President Reagan. SOUTH EL MONTE, CA. 91733 RECONDITIONED AND RECYCLED STEEL DRUMS STEEL DRUMS MAKE SENSE, ECOLOGICALLY In the United States, approximately 45 million drums are reconditioned annually. In Califor- nia, approximately 14,000 drums are reconditioned each working day. By reconditioning in lieu of manufacturing new drums, we save approximately a million tons of steel annually. Of all steel conserved in the U.S. our industry conserves one-fifth of the total Drums can be reconditioned for one tenth of the energy required to manufacture a new drum I he energy saved is equivalent to one billion eight hundred million gallons of oil annually in the United States. If drums were not reconditioned, millions of empty drums would end up in our already over- burdened landfills. Because reconditioners pay for empty drums, illegal discarding by the emptier is discouraged. Even with all these benefits going for it. the reconditioned drum saves the buyer approximately one half of the cost of a new drum. Denise K2r7 ' ' •5 0 2J) Index 355 The year of 1981-1982 began with many hopes and many dreams. Together the Amat family has worked to make those dreams come true. We have seen dedication and pride in the efforts of our athletes and have had the occasion to com- memorate such outstanding players as Don Hiti. Ron Brown and Pernell Taylor at our annual sports banquet. We have viewed the growth of our students in their hard work on the annual carnation sale and we have seen the hard work put forth to construct the new Fine Arts building. These accom- plishments will be remembered for years to come. Many times we sfarted with only an idea of a goal which seemed very far away. There may have been sonie who felt we were chasing rainbows that didn ' t touch the ground They thought our dreams were just that dreams But we have what it takes to make our dreams come true. Throughout this year we have seen dedication, pride, a lot of work. joy. and the overall spirit of the Amat family. Together we have reached our goals and have made real what seemed to many our impossible dreams The Tusitala Staff would especially like to thank our advisor Mr Mac. for putting up with us this year. We really appreciate his patience encouragement, and the many overtime hours he put in which made this yearbook possible. (Thanks Mr. Mac. were glad you didn ' t go to Colorado to become a fireman.)
