This year that spe- cial individual is Reverend John Cremins. When Father Cremins began his career he lived among the poor in Mexico. He spoke their language and shared their experi- ences. He also encouraged high school students to join him on his annual trips to Tijuana to help make the season of Christmas hap- pier for the needy. Father Cremins has been gifted wih musical talent. He has received both a Masters and a Doctoral Degree in the field of music. He has led orchestras and choirs in various parishes. Yet he still devotes endless hours to the Amat family. His winning smile and laughing eyes have won him the friendship of both stu- dents and faculty. He has always been willing to offer a helping hand to those who needed his help. His encouragement has given us strength to endure even the most difficult of times. Father Cremins is indeed a special member of the Amat family. We look upon his devotion to the school with great appreciation. Dedication re I Shall Not Pass This Way Again ' Through this toilsome world, alas! Once and only once I pass; If a kindness I may show, If a good deed I may do To a suffering fellow man Let me do it while I can. Eventually, we all must graduate from Amat and sadly leave our high school years behind. Although we are leaving, we are taking with us some very special memories. Of all the memories we will cherish, the most precious will be the ones of friends and friendships we made here at Amat. FRIENDS, I WILL As times goes by and memories pass, Lying in their wake are those which last. Not of places we have seen, nor of things which could have been, But of special people we came to know; Those we learned to love as friends. They taught us to care, they helped us to grow. They made us keep trying when we kept saying no. And when our world started falling, they didn ' t let go But stood by our side through thick and through thin, Sharing in those times which never comes again. So when the earth seems so unkind, And the darkness without end; These are the people I call to mind The ones who ' ve made me what I am, The ones I learned to love as friends. Anita Rodriguez 120 Time Out IE MEMBER YOU It is in our friendships that we grow and learn to love; we become other- centered as Christ wants us to be. Friendship is vital to the Christian atmosphere here at Bishop Amat. Friendship Friendship means that what never betore meant anything means so much more It means titting in without having to try . . . It ' s knowing the answer without asking why. It ' s the kindness and the warmth, the joy and the tears; It ' s the closeness and love, the laughs and the tears. It ' s learning to share, and knowing to give, It ' s learning to care, and loving to live. And even though when the time comes, we will part, we ' ll still be together always, in my heart. Ann Sutton Time Out 121 OFF THE Amat ' s successful performance on the field in various activities, ranging from academics to athletics, is a reflection c our off-the-field activities. When asked which demonstrated Amat ' s greatest football potential, Coach Patricio responded: Ath- letic potential is a lot of things. We played a number of games extremely well, but the game that probably showed it best was the Montgomery Game. That game showed everyone what Amat was all about. We had to go out there and overcome a lot of things, such as being behind, and we had to over- come a team that was sky high It was a game in which the whole team pulled together and said hey, there ain ' t no way we are gonna lose! The students attending were very enthusiasic and energetic They really showed the Amat Spirit! Activities 219 CHRISTIAN SERVICE ' , - Christian Service projects are conducted by Amat students for the aged, needy, handicapped, orphans, and abused chil- dren. Our students visit a variety of institutions, and facilities in order to help those in need. Among the locations that our stu- dents visit are Lanterman State Hospital, Golden Age Convales- cent Home, and Beverly Manor. To the many individuals in these institutions, our students brought joy and the love of the Christian faith to them in a very special way. Though our stu- dents met with these people for just a brief period of time each day, the spiritual joy and happiness of such visits will remain with them, and with our students, for a long time. 220 Activities The students provide both a direct and an indirect service to the people they visit Many assist these individuals by reading to them, by teaching them fundamentals, or, in most cases, by simply spending some time with them. Our students devote unselfish hours in an effort to help those who need education, comfort, or the pleasure of a warm smile.
