FF if Varsity Club The Varsity Club consists of young men who have lettered in a varsity sport for at least one season. The club provides a service role to the school and the local community in repre- senting the school. It sets an example of character and action for athletes. The club and their moderator are: moderator, lVlr. lVlont- gomeryp president, Alex Acostap vice-president, Marcos Gar- cia Cnot shown in this picturejg secretaryftreasurer, Paul Quinn, sergeant-at-arms, Steve Knight. California Scholarship Federation The California Scholarship Federation is an organization which exists to distinguish those students who show high scholastic achieve- ment, responsibility and leadership. Belonging to this organization can help students, after they graduate, to enter college andfor obtain employment. During the year, members participate in many acitivites such as receiving Dodger tick- ets, going to Disneyland, preparing Easter baskets for the needy, going on a ski trip, visit- ing museums, and having a Fiesta booth. The club officers and their moderator are president, Kathy Taylor, vice-president, Kathy Hanrahanp secretary, Jeannette Newman, and moderator, Sister Jane. 153

La tin Club Enjoyment while learning the language is the chief purpose of this organization. The main aspects of this club are three- fold: cultural, social, and service. The club's activites include the following: a trip to the J. Paul Getty Museum, picnics, a trip to the Huntington Library, produc- tion of a Mythological play, a Gregorian chant mass, involve- ment with the mentally handi- capped at Pacific State Hospital, and entertaining at convalescent homes. The year's activities are con- cluded with the annual Roman Banquet. The officers and their moderator are: moderator, Sis- ter Conheadyp president, Laura Kiel, vice-president, Maggie Mor- risette, and treasurer, Tony Wheeler. Spanish Club The purpose of the Spanish Club is to bring out a clear understanding and aware- ness ofthe Spanish culture. The major activities are Guadalupe Day, a trip to Tijuana, and the banquet. Guadalupe Day is Decem- ber 12. The Spanish classes assemble in the patio area and recite the rosary in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The trip to Tijuana is the Christian Service Project. Toys and clothes are gathered and taken to an orphanage there. This project takes place during the Christmas season. The banquet is held in a Spanish restaurant. The Club assembles, and certificates are given to those students with outstanding achievement in the Spanish classes. The officers and their moderator are: moderator, Mrs. Emeteriog president, Odalis Camacho, vice-president, Andrew Ortiz, secretary, Alicia Castillo, and treasurer, Blanca Hernandez. 155
