Text from Pages 1 - 114 of the 1963 volume:

LlBf DEDICATION Dear Mom and Dad, Today I'm a graduate. It seems but a dream. I can hardly believe that it's true. An important part of my training is done- I have come to an end. And my first grateful thought is of you. You, my parents, who helped me so much on the way; You, whose love and faith were so strong. Yours the kindness, the courage, the praise that was there In times when the way seemed so long. I know that you're proud. Mom and Dad, today as you see Your graduate just so late your wee tot. But my pride in you rings as strong in my heart God love you-and bless you a lot. This is only a verse-just a thank you in rhyme But its accents are happy and glad. For it tells of the love that in graditude comes From a graduate to his Mom and Dad. Your loving child Class of '63 Published by Birnamwood High School 19 63 BIHISCAH STAFF Editor........... Now that our high school days are over we feel a little sad that we're leaving B.H.S. , our friends, and the good times we've had here. On Seotember 2, 1959, forty-six freshmen entered Birnamwood High School. Everything seemed a bit strange the first few days but it soon passed. At our first class meeting we elected our class officers as follows: president, Jerry Zwicky; vice president, Jerome Pietz; secretary, Dennis Vauhgn; treasurer, Cheryl Krueger. We were initiated by the Sophomore class during the first week in October and we gave them a return party the next month. A year later as Sophomores, we sponsored the Freshmen Initiation and they gave us a return party soon after. On March 28 we ordered our clessrings. Our last project of the year was the post prom for which we had a small band play. Now as Juniors we were anxiously waiting for the day when our class- rings would arrive. That day was October 3. Our prom was held on May Ij., 1962. It was entitled Moonlight Serenade and our king was Dick Lepak. He chose Mari McGrath as queen. Ron Kazda's Orchestra played. The gym was decorated with a wall of blue crepepaper streamers and a ceiling of hanging stars. There was a big orange moon at the foot of the stage and a rotating spotlight shone on the stars. Our last year finally arrived and we started the year by choosing our annual staff. On October 3, we went to Wausau to have our graduation pictures taken. We have chosen green and white as our class colors and the white rose as our flower. We selected the Wisconsin Dells as one of the points of interest for our class trip. Go right in, he's expecting you.” Well, hello DICK, glad to see you. What can I do for you? I came to see you about a loan for my business. It's getting close to lunch, Dick, so I'll tell you what—. Let's hare lunch together and talk about the loan after that. There's a swell delicatessen down on Second Avenue called Johnny's . Oh, by the way Dick, you remember MARY McGRATH and BETTY SLATER? They're waitresses at Johnny's. Mary is married to Johnny Armstrong and Betty to Mike Poskie. This is surely a good meal, TOM. That isn't all Dick. GEORGE RESCH is the chef here. Oh, now that you mention it, to you know what any of our other class- mates are doing? Yes, I know what a few of them are doing. DENNIS VAUGHN has taken a Job at the Marathon Corporation. It's a funny thing, but all he did was apply for the boss's job and now he runs the whole corporation. I always knew that Dennis would make it to the top. CARL STANG runs your dad's garage now, huh? Yesi He started as a mechanic and bought a few used cars and gently nudged Daddy out of the business. I got a letter from ROGER HEGEWALD, in Minnesota. He's doing art work for advertising and wants to do a big job for my bottle gas business. Really? He always was a good artist. PHIL MARIEN and BILL BEVERSDORF finally made it through college and now Phil is an accountant and Bill is teaching mathematics in Birnamwood High School. I guess JEAN BERGNER has been watching Ben Casey and Dr. Killdare so much she has decided to become a surgeon at the Cady Memorial Nursing Home. Oh, Dick, did you know that DENNIS KNAAK is the architeet of our new bank in Wausau? DON NEMKE is the general contractor, with his specially skilled brick layer, DENNIS UMLAND, and Umies right hand man, RICHARD BULTMAN. Tom, did you know that LAWRENCE RESCH is the head coach at B. H.
