SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The year 1971—This is the city—Los Angeles, California—I work here— I'm a writer—my name is KAHEN SCHROEDER. It was Monday morning—I was sit- ting in the frontroom of my apartment relaxing after my trip around the world. I was watching television. My favorite program was on, The Two Stooges , starring ORIN WINCENTSEN and BOBBY TRONNIER. It was directed by SHIRLEY MARTEN. Just then a commercial came on. I was about to leave the room but when I saw that CLYDE VAN PROGYAH was advertising, I simply had to stay and watch. He was advertising chocolate cigaretts with a striped filter for people who can't stand to smoke—you eat them. Suddenly I heard the doorbell ring. I was very surprised to see the real familiar face of a redheaded girl named PHYLLIS MAhiEN. Hello. Hello, what a surprise. What brings you here? I'm a reporter for the Birnamwood Newspaper and I came to see if you would write an article for the paper on the 1961 graduates and their where- abouts. I heard about the trip you won around the world and Iiigured you must have ran into quite a few of our old classmates. Oh yes, I've seen quite a few of them. Fine. Why don't you tell me all about your trip. I'd love to. To begin with, at the L. A. Airport, I was ushered into the plane by stewardess NANCY SCHREUHS. As I gazed up at the pilot I saw it was KURT SANDBERG. I set right next to MARCARET WEBER, who was doing some traveling also, as she is a professional model. While flying over Iowa I saw the many beautiful large diary farms. I learned from Mar,aret that one of these farms is owned and operated by LEE ANN KAUTZA, who employed two farm hands, DUANE FxTCH and DON RESCH. One of the sites I enjoyed most was New York. One night I went to see Lawrence Welk's Band appearring at a famous night club and there in the clar- inet section was that famous player, ED MUHS. Another night I went to a big teenage dance to see Rock'n'roll Roger and his gone guitar and he was with this real famous Rock'n'roll singer, Merry Larry. I was amazed to find that Rockin' Roger was really ROGER KNIGHT and Merry Larry was LARRY MARTIN. Another thing I enjoyed in New York wss a Yankees Baseball game. I looked out and saw ALAN NOUSEN at the dug-out. He wasn't a player, he was bat boyj m T . . « I enjoyed tremendously a large fair at Dalles, Texas. ihere i watched stock car races in which two famous stunt drivers participated, SHARON ANN ARMSTRONG and RACHEL SCHMIDT. While in Kentucky, I visited CArtOL MEVERDEN who is now Mrs. Jones. She has a set of twins. In Florida I visited the home of the former BETTY PEASLEY who is married to Reverend EDWARD ELLEFSEN. They also have a set of twins. Looks like they are keeping up with the JonsesJ In Florida I went to Harry's Shoe Store to buy shoes. I found out I could not ouy shoes there because HAROLD RESCH owned it and he only handled sizes 14 and up. But, I had a nice chat with his book- keeper, JANET KUSCHEL. Well, that was about all of the classmates I've ran into. There still must be quite a few in Birnamwood, isn't there? Yes', there is. I'll fill you in on all the details. One thing you'll be interested to know is that BOBBY DICKkiAN is Coach at Birnamwood High School. Say, is Birnamwood still so dead? Yes, quite dead. Say, by the way, EDWARD REISSMANN and LLOYD PINGEL took over the Kopitzke Funeral Home. They also own a small pool hall where they play pool, cards, and things of that sort, while they wait lor business. _____ We did get a few more business places though. BETTY HEGEWALD and JANET LEPAK own a beauty shop. MIKE POSKIE and LLOYD UTTECHT own a hot rod shop and a huge chicken ranch. , „ „ KAREN HENDERSON and LORETTA MATSCHE have quite a racket going. Oh, what's that? . , Well, on one side of the street, Karen Henderson owns a malt shop and directly across Loretta Matsche runs a dieting salon. . ______ Oh, and the new post office has employed JOAN BOETTCHER ana KATHY VOG L along with PAT SPRAUJE. We have a telephone office in Birnamwood, too, where WART SALVERSON is telephone operator. There must've been quite a few marriages in Birnamwood in the last ten years, wasn't there? I should say. I still remember RUTH GILRAY. She got married right after graduation. Her and her husband live on a farm in Birnamwood. Not long after that, SANDRA UTTECHT got married and she lives in Wittenberg. Then CATHYRN ERICKSON got married about three years later and she lives in Hatley. Speaking of Hatley, PhYLLiS SCHRKURS and JERRY STANKOWSKI got married right after they graduated and they live in Hatley, where they own the uamble Store. Say, what ever happened to RUTH PIETZ and MARJORIE BULTMAN? Haven't you heard of those two famous scientists? They've recently made a sputnik and put it out in space and they are in it. They haven't cosse back yet. Oh, my goshi Why they're just out of this world. You know I got a surprise when I went to the door the other day and found CAROLE STEINKE selling books. She's doing fine. She really knows how to sell. She must—she's practically a millionare. She pleaded with me to buy books as though she really needed the money and I f ell for her line and bought $20.00 worth. Then 1 glanced out the window only to see her pull off in her solid gold Cadillac. Well, I guess that about does it for our former classmates. Say, when can you have an article written up for us? I'll have it in the mail within a week! That would be fine. I really must be getting to the airport. It sure was nice to see you again. It was nice to see you too and reminisce about old friends. Be sure and come again. I will, good-bye. Bye. By Karen Schroeder CLASS HISTORY The date of September 2, 1 57 one oi the larger freshmen classes enrolled at Birnarawood High.
