TmF STUDENT'S wWe the student body of Birnamwood High School, in order to form a more perfect government, establish justice, encourage good citizenship habits, advance health standards, seek better cooperation, and promote scholastic achievement, do establish this Constitution. This, the preamble to the constitution of Birnamwood High School tells what the student government means to do. . But, how did we happen to get this government? This has been Mr. Grosenick»s pet idea for several years, and this year his Senior Social Problems class decided that it should go into effeot. A constitution was drawn up by the class and presented to the student body for ratification.lt was ratified by a large majority and then it was up to the Junior and Senior classes to select candidates. The Seniors were to nominate three candidates for student president and from their class Tom Corning, Edna Tornow, and Clarence Roepke were chosen. The Seniors and the Juniors were each to nominate one candi- date for judge. The Seniors nominated Junior Koerner and the Juniors nominated Donald Klotzbuecher. Then came the great politi- cal campaign “terminating in an all—school election Tom Corning and Junior Koerner turned up the victors. The constitution provides for a council to be made up of two members from each class—a Junior and a Senior member, the Junior member to be carried over to the next year. It also provides for a faculty advisor and it was our luck to get the man of the great idea Mr. Grosenick. This council meets once a month to plan campaigns and decide punishments. ,, , . The judicial department tries the cases which have violated council laws. The judge is aided by four policemen who report the violations of the law. Policemen are changed every month. Although this is the first year, the plan seems to have worked well, and the Seniors leave their best wishes for the future success of this student organization.
