LEADERSHIP ROGER GRIFFITH President 20 WINTER '59 STUDENT BODY GF FICERS Many thanks to the faculty, administration, and student body for making my term of office rewarding and enjoyable. A leader can be only as good as the people who support him, and with your support I have done my best. Congratulations to the Graduates, who will carry out in the years to come the ideals they have been given at Birmingham. I recommend that those students returning in the fall work hard to get the most out of their high school career. During the A-11 class organization period the class sponsors were announced and the name, colors, motto, and officers were selected by the class. The big event of the B-12 semester was Recognition Day, when the Alphalons received their beautiful sweaters. Also during the B-12 semester the Alphalons presented a sportsnight in honor of the Adelphian class. A southern plantation's garden provided the setting lor Savannah Twilight, the prom which they gave at the close of the B-12 semester for the Adelphians. Many activities were in store for the Alphalons in their final semester at Birmingham. They were guests ot the Para- gon class of Summer '59 at a senior sportsnight. Activity Day was also one of the highlights of the semester. On this day the Alphalons started a new tradition by planting a tree in the swimming pool area. Another memorable occasion was the Candlelight Supper held at the Glen-Aire Country Club. The prom, Moonmist and Memories, was given for the Alphalons by the Paragons at the 146th Fighter Wing Audi- torium. Thus ended a wonderful senior year. Prom Queen and her court. The Knights, with the help of the Ladies are in charge of directing homecoming week. In addition, they sponsor a dance each semester. As the leading 12th grade honor service organization at Birming- ham the Knights perform many official duties: at all assemblies they are out early to usher, and stay late to insure orderly dismissal. They work at every sportsnight, and also contribute to many other school activities. Proving that a iob taken on by the Knights is done well, is the service trophy which they have won two successive semesters for their out- standing work in guarding the halls. Planning for recognition day began when the class was organized in the A-11. On October 3, 1958, the Paragons received their out- standing aqua senior sweaters, and attended a picnic luncheon. That evening the new Senior Bees had a senior sechon at the Rooseveh footbaH game, and ahended a danceatschoolaherthe game. During the B-12 semester the Paragons gave the senior sportsnight and presented Moonmist and Memories , the enchanting senior prom. Both activities were given in honor of the Alphalons. The A-12 semester began with Howdy Week which was sponsored by the Senior Ayes. On April 3rd the Auroreans honored the Paragons at a senior sportsnight, and everyone had a ball on Senior Activity Day, April Zlst. Knollwood Country Club provided a beautiful setting for the Candlelight Supper held on May 18th. The unforgettable prom, set in an Oriental Wonderland, was presented bythe Auroreans, on May 29th. Finally gradu- ation arrived - June 18th. Goodbyes were said at the all- night party, which was held at the Glenaire Country Club. A .p -A : ,...,.,. Illl r' or ,vu qi fm M X TT?
