r gg. r-HL .1 Ib E1 CLASS PROPHECY One fine morning in 1954, ten years after I had left Birdville High School, my butler awoke me with the morning news. There was nothing very unusual about this except it seemed that some of Birdville's ex-stu- dents had made the headlines. For instance, on the sports page I first noticed the headline, a very large one, that said, Joe Louis loses Cham- pionship to Thomas Harris, who was one of our Birdville graduates of 1944. Glancing on down the page, I noticed that there was a new football star on Texas University's leading team-one Marvin Ward, another Birdville boy. The Ladies' International Tennis Championship was won by none other than Betty Walker, another Birdville bird that flew the coop. I also noticed that Sarah Gholson had been named first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Good old Sarah-still playing baseball. Another column that interested me was one that had the title Boy graduates just ten years late. After reading the column I discovered that the boy was Orvie Beck, an exceptionally fine student. Turning next, as is my custom, to the theatrical section, I saw that one of Birdville's beloved students had been made a Metropolitan Opera star. I'll wager you would never guess who it was, so I will tell you-our own Rosemary Hanus. Next I noticed that two successors had been named for Tarzan. The successors were Birdville boys, Roy and Coy Brooks, who were billed as the Twin Tarzans, what a title!

And talking about success-ors it seems that since Charles Boyer is so old and decrepit, a new romantic star has been named, who is none other than Jimmy Hunter. I see that there is not much change in Jimmy even if it has been ten years since he left Birdville. I noticed that Roy Acuff's place on the radio had been taken over by. a new cowboy singer, James Hurst. Good luck to you, James. The society news was never of much interest, but on this day I felt somewhat different. At the top of the society page was an article describ- ing the wedding of Miss Bobbie Scott to a Mr. Terrell Carpenter. QI couldn't place them at first.J The groom wore a pair of lovely blue overalls for his something blue. The bride was something old and the ring something borrowed. His hat was a yellow straw and his shoes Were Army style. The bride wore purple, very original. In the next space was an account of the birthday party given by Mrs. W. C. Stripling III, the former Marjorie Ray, for her two-year-old son, W. C. Stripling IV. Another article that caught my eye was that Dorothy Walker had returned home from Washington, D. C. for a short visit with her sister. For the past several years she had been the Pres.ident's secretary. lYes, it was still Roosevelt-in his sixth term, I believe-Oh, Well, we've all stopped counting now.D U Up in the corner was a picture that I would have noticed long before had I been in my right mind. It was a beautiful red bathing suit, designed and modeled by none other than Lois Wanda Vick. Under this was an item about Nina Fay Campbell who had just been elected president of the world renowned Truck Driver's League. That just goes to prove that you never can tell about the future.
