Gone? Why aren't there more Pep Assemblies is the question alot of students ask. The main reason is because of lack of participation. Out of approximately 800 students, barely 200 show up for the few assemblies we do have and the ones who do come want to leave early. Do we have to lock the gym doors until it's time to leave? In 1978 Pep Assemblies were only for the Cheerleaders, Pep Club members and Ball Players. They decided that the team needed more spirit. Also, the lack of students for spirit week has been greatly increasing. While the Teachers become more involved the students become less involved. Now even the Band and Chorus concerts have been taken away. Pep Assemblies, Band Concerts, and other professional assemblies are a privilege. When the Student Body fails to participate they are cancelled. The more we participate the more we can participate in. ?

Homecoming Spirits Not In the climate controlled comfort of the gymnasium the cheerleaders pumped loads of spirit into tne student body at our annual homecoming pep assembly featuring their ver- sion of Hee Haw . The first annual Spirit Jug was taken away by the juniors. Because of the winter-like weather the band could not perform for the pre-game or half-time shows, but managed to endure the almost unbear- able conditions of the parade. Pom pon Squad entertained the homecoming audience dur- ing pre-game with their rou- tirae to Funkytown . Half-time started with our yearly float contest. This year the theme was Comic Stripes . The Seniors chose Star Wars with the theme Panthers Strike Back . Den- nis the Menace was selected by the Juniors with their motto Don't Menace Us . The Sophomores chose Broom Hilda with the motto Stir 'Em Up . Marmaduke was selected by the freshman with the saying Eat Em Up . The floats were judged on appropriateness of the theme, originality of thought, com- pleteness, and care in work- manship. When scores were tallied the class of 1983 won the Float Jug. Another special event that takes place during half-time is the crowning of the Home- coming Queen. This years court consisted of Mary Sweers and Fred Port; Lisa Poineau and Steve Clore; Rose Nielsen and Mike Foy; Jo Ann Remender
