VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The Varsity Cheerleaders for 1973-74 consisted of seven very talented girls. These girls had the honor to attend a cheerleading camp in the summer. They went to Waldenwoods, and they feel it really helped to improve their squad. The squad also attended a clinic at Wyoming, MI. at Rogers High School. Here the girls won a fourth place ribbon for their original cheer. The girls really had a great time cheering this year, excluding some of the injuries. Team Captain Mike Pagels was selected by his teammates Most Valuable player this season. Pagels also led in total steals, averaging 2 per game. Don Hobson proved worthy of the Most Improved Player selec- tion stemming from a decision by the coaching staff. Don also obtained the highest free throw percentage with 66%. Bill Duby, a two year Varsity letter winner, achieved highest field goal percentage. Dave Gust, a Sophomore added his talents to the team by participating in 6 games late in the season. Those Birch Run players selected to the All-Conference Team included Bill Ivey, 2nd Team, with Mike Pagels and Tom Schian receiving Honorable Mention for their fine play. Bill Ivey led scoring with 284 total points and was first in total rebounds with 168.
