White, C. Neff, Coach Jakiemiec. R. Woodward. FOOTBALL 1968 The Birch Run Panthers lacked the luster of other more outstanding seasons, but managed, nevertheless, to compile a 3 won - 6 lost record. The need for considerable sophomore staff- ing, lack of experience and lack of depth at critical offensive and defensive positions all contributed to a not so glamorous season. After losing the first five grid contests the Panthers rallied about their head mentor. Coach Ray Peters, and mounted a three-win offensive before losing the final game to a rugged Freeland ball team. With a number of lettermen returning and a host of J.V.’s joining the ranks the Panthers look forward to an improved 1969 season in an ever-strengthening Greater Thumb Conference. Highlights of the season included a third place trophy in the Caro Holiday Tourney and two Birch Run High School Scoring records set by Dennis Keith. TRACK 1968 The Birch Run Panther track team was a vastly improved group in its second year of com- petition with record performances turned in by several harriers. The track team for the past two years, has been made up primarily of underclassmen. Because of this next year's track team will be a more experienced group and should show considerable improvement over past per- formances. We are looking forward to the time when our own all-weather track, now under construction, will be available for use. BASEBALL 1968 The 1968 baseball season has got to be recorded as one of the finest ever in the history of Birch Run High School. This campaign saw a hustling Panther nine post an all-time record of twenty-two victories in twenty-seven games. En-route the Panthers earned second place in South Central Conference play and reached the Regional finals of the Mt. Pleasant fournament. Highlights include the breaking of 19 individual school records, D. Keith pitching con- secutive no-hit games, K. Klein facing only 21 men at Vassar, turning in 17 double plays, D. Neff and K. Klein making the All Conference first team; and J. Kline losing only one game in two years.
