PANTHER TALES Birch Run High School Hail to the Queen! Homecoming and Autumn's falling leaves - football - dates and classmates - all these and a host of other golden memories will come flooding back again as you turn through the pages of PANTHER TALES for 1962. BIRCH RUN AREA SCHOOLS Birch Run, Michigan WILLIAM ROSS, Student Council President; uses the school's public address system to help direct the many student activities in the classrooms, on the stage, on the field and on the court. Board of Education GILBERT BERG - PRESIDENT CHESTER HUBINGER - SECRETARY ARTHUR SCHUMANN - TREASURER EDWARD CUSICK - TRUSTEE EDWIN MATZKE - TRUSTEE LOUIS CLOSE - TRUSTEE NEWELL WARSIN - TRUSTEE Elementary Administrative Staff DONNA ADOMEIT ELNORA DOWD Elementary Principal Intermediate Principal Secretaries MARY DOLL Elementary Office RUPPRECHT'S SAUSAGES Frankenmuth, Michigan HELEN SCHUMANN Chief Accountant General Office RAU BROTHERS Frankenmuth, Michigan Dedication A. W. THORP Faculty Manager of Athletics In grateful recognition of thirty eight years of teaching and service to the boys and girls of Michigan the staff of PANTHER TALES dedicates this volume to Mr. Thorp. A lifetime of work in public education has earned for him a host of friends among his former and present students and his colleagues. No demands on his time or energies have been too great. His neighbors as well as his professional associates know him as a true friend and helper. In a teaching career spanning four decades he has taught all grade levels and all kinds of students from non-English speaking Polish youngsters to 1962's sophisticated rocket age teenagers. The baseball diamonds of Central Michigan know him well as a successful coach with a career spanning thirty one successive seasons. A shelf full of championship trophies point to his skill as a coach and the scene pictured below must be etched in his memory as he reviews thousands of innings spent directing boys in the nation's national pastime.
