DEV CAT OH In grateful recognition of a quarter century of service to the schools and.students of Birch Run the staff of PANTHER TALES dedicates this book to Su- perintendent Harry M. Layman. His tenure has been marked by continued growth and progress in educational facilities and curriculum. A completely new and modern educational plant has been raised, literally from the ashes of the original building existing in 1934, the year of Mr. Layman's arrival in Birch Run. The district has grown in size through thoughtful reorganization details planned and executed with the future growth of the area in mind. A fleet of modern busses covers two townships to transport students. Cafeteria facilities for all grade levels are available. A small volume would be need- ed to detail the growth in faculty, the custodial staff, and other personnel needed to operate the school system. Play ground and athletic facilities have been increased by the acquisition of many acres of land. No area has been neglected as Superintendent Lay- man has worked and planned for the education of Birch Run's boys and girls. Unplanned, but fittingly appropriate, the 25th commencement ceremonies will mark the graduation of Superintendent Layman's son, Donald. Pictured on the left is an aerial view of the Birch Run Area Sch- ools taken in February, 1959. At the right is a view of Birch Run's newest school - an 11 room elementary building as yet unnamed.
