luke tai where do christian yearbook themes come from? how do people come up with those ideas? some are off the wall, while others surely must borderline on genius. well, to answer such thought provoking questions: this year ' s theme was conceived in a Jacuzzi. to escape the intense pressure of studies, todd myatt, mark bardwell, and myself chose to enjoy an evening of business mixed with pleasure in the most relaxing place we could think of. somehow the biola bubble became the subject of conversation; and voila — bursting the bubble popped into our minds. genius? special revelation from the lord? maybe not. but we wan ted a theme that would extend last year ' s challenge, visions of excellence, and what better way to inspire thought than with controversy. just the term biola bubble brings to mind both a positive and negative image, in the following articles we hope to stimulate further thought. what is the biola bubble? biola students live in it. all those who attend school here including faculty and staff are part of it. we not only live in it, we comprise the bubble, it emanates from us. each year in august, we come together from to form the bubble and during the course of the year; it grows until finally it bursts, we even have a ceremony to announce the fact, a few months later, we come together to form it once again. the bubble is often a way of thinking, to some it is merely a way of thinking — one possible outlook on life, to these people, the bubble possesses definite geo- graphical boundaries and it is a great place to go and leave, but to others the bubble has no geographical boundaries, it is their life. those who live on campus can easily experience its omnipresence, they can live here for years and not have any contact with that which lies beyond its see-through walls which prevent any contact with people of other contrary beliefs and life styles, they only read and hear about the horrors outside, to them the bubble is a green- house; a safe observation point from where they can view both the outside world and themselves through portals previously established by head greenhouse keep- ers. for these individuals, when time comes for the bubble to execute its ritual bursting — it is merely a ritual, the resulting explosion forms hundreds of tiny bubbles each of which contains a neatly packaged life. when we choose to take the bubble with us where ever we go, then we begin to divide the world into.
