ne of mv roommates and I went out looking at apartments yesterday. V ere both graduating and Biola has this funny rule about not letting graduates stay on campus. Not that we » ant to live at Biola. We ' re free. It ' s time to pack our belongings in the California Cooler cardboard boxes and get on with our lives. Still, it ' s kind of hard to leave Biola w ithout feeling some sense of loss. The loss is not over exams, term papers or Missionary Conference. I doubt that I ' ll ever really miss those things. But, I do think there will be times when I ' ll look around for someone who will play whiffleball or go on a late-night food run. There won ' t always be someone there for that reason. I do think I ' ll miss this college lifestyle. Of course, your social life doesn ' t end upon graduation. It just becomes a little more difficult to fit things in. Opportunities for leisure are less frequent, and who has time for an In and Out run when you have to wake up at six to go to work the next day? I mean, in col- lege it ' s no big deal. You just skip your early-morning class. No problem. Do that a few times at your job, though, before to long, you ' ll be lined up outside the downtown resuce mission. College is going to basketball games, parties and dorm activities while you ' re getting an education. Those things are essential to a healthy, successful college life. And they ' re as much a part of your education as any 10-week exam. If you don ' t learn to live with people now, while it ' s relatively easy, you ' re probably going to have a difficult time once you graduate. That ' s when life ' s challenges will really start and personality conflicts will be a little more significant than who emptied the garbage last. I ' m going to miss the college lifestyle, but it ' s probably fortunate that it ' s ending this vear. If I ate too many more In and Out burgers I ' d probably die from clogged arteries before I turned 30. — Glenn Whipp Dorms, Activities, Socials add to Life

Torrey Conference Mr. R.A. Torrey was considered a great leader in the field of Christian education. Biola University comnnemorates its first dean, Mr. Torrey, each year with a week of seminars. This year Biola set aside the week of October 14-18 for its 49th annual Torrey Memorial Bible Conference, a spiritual empha- sis week and a break from school for most students. Several outstanding men and women of God spoke throughout this week of special seminars. Some of the speakers for this years ' conference included: Dr. Calvin Cook, Dr. Norman Geisler, Dr. Roy Roberts, Mrs. Murial Cook, Dr. Darryl Delhousaye, Mrs. Jill Briscoe, Dr. Walter Kaiser, Jr., and Dr. Howard Stevenson. The series Amos and the Justice of God, by Dr. Roy Roberts; daily luncheons for different majors; sessions by Mrs. Murial Cook and her daughter Mrs. Shelly Volkardt; a special time for worship and praise led by Dr. Howard Ste- venson; and the concluding general session by Jill Briscoe highlighted this year ' s Torrey Memorial Bible Conference. Seminars attended throughout the week challenged stu- dents spiritually helping them to grow in faith. As speakers shared what was on their hearts, many students opened themselves to share in love. Most seminars spoke in a special way to the students who attended them and throughout the week they learned a great deal about their Lord and Savior. 18
