STUDENT MISSIONAFIY UNION Unique Growing Gpportunity Those involved in the SMU could not stress strongly enough what a unique growing opportunity mission work can be. This past year, SMU consisted of over five hundred concerned students. They were all committed either in ac- tual mission work, or in support and prayer. The one thing that makes SMU so unique is that it makes overseas mis- sions available. Students either work overseas with special Summer Teams trained at Biola, or with mission boards. The SMU office provided a Summer Missions Opportunity Hand- book which is the most com- prehensive compilation of mission boards in the world. The SMU also actively involved itself in local outreach programs, in prayer groups, and-as everyone knows-in Friday morning Chapels. A new development this year, which was available to every Biolan, was the Career Missions Placement Service. The program helped students to find an opportunity for mission work ,in their own area of interest. This service is hoped to be made available to the La Mirada community as well. The Edinbourgh '80 Student Consultation on Frontier Missions was another hap- pening. lt was especially important be- cause it focused attention on the fact that the coming generation will serve as the key to the next major thrust of missionary work in the world. Mike Strauss, SMU's president this past year, urged that every student be- come involved in some aspect of SMU. As he puts it, God will use you and mold you, and you will never be the same. 28 Student Missionary Union
