Women attend special meetings Strengthen Thou me according unto Thy Word was the theme of the 1980 Torrey Memorial Bible Conference. The conference was named after Rueben Archer Torrey one of the founders of Biola. The entire week, january 28 through February 1 was devoted exclusively to the study of God's Word, under the instruc- tion of Rev. D. Stuart Brisco, Mrs. Muriel Cook, Rev. Gordon MacDonald, Rev. Ronald Dunn, and Dr. Haddon W. Robinson. The week con- sisted of main sessions and a series of bible studies held each morning and each evening. Each evening was a special girls seminar led by Muriel Cook, which was also attended by many Biola men who became disappointed when booted out. The conference brought an added strength and inspiration before beginning a new semester. Sophomore Mari Sheets commented on the conference: I learned the practical principles to walk by faith, and principles to help pesonal relation- ships. by Ingrid Lott llfll 2 o te I llemoriall Bllble onfcrencc isso ls- r 1-.glltan me according lo Chg wid-' 26 Torrey Conference

DAY OF PRAYER Students invade La lvlirada Park Several hundred Biola students invad- ed La Mirada Park on October 24, 1979 on a mission sponsored by King's Daughters. For over two hours they picked up trash and painted picnic tables as a tangible demonstration of their love for jesus Christ, and their will- ingness to be involved with their com- munity. The day began with a sunrise service on the bleachers behind the gym. After breaking up into small groups for prayer, students went to breakfast. Dr. Charles Swindoll spoke at 9:30 on The God of lmpossibilities and urged students to pray in faith, no matter how difficult the situation might seem. With this chal- lenge in mind, students were dismissed to pray individually. After lunch the Great Exodus began wave after wave of students marched across the campus to La Mirada Park. By late afternoon the park looked notice ably cleaner. A Barbecue supper on the lawn preceded a communion service. Many students shared testimonies of how God had been answering prayer since the semester began. As the day's activities drew to a close, the general concensus seemed to be that it had been an unusually fruitful Day of Prayer by Rebecca Beaty 28 Day of Prayer ll af tiiql 7 Q I ' A ,Q 3, V - 3 lf 'lf ,,..,--fi gn: . i 'f' , use ,-...A., i ' 9 'H H ..' , , J- X , . j, in i 'Ai , ..
