70 BIULAN Dedication: Dr Richard McNeely Dr. Richard I. McNeely is a man who has recognized this day as a time for action. Returning to Biola in January '69 after a three year absence of service as Chaplain in the Naval Reserves, Dr. McNeely has again become a vital part of the Biola faculty. His concern for Biola stu- dents is readily evident in his chapel sessions as well as in his own classes. His spiritual guidance and instruction are invaluable and have been given always in the spirit of love. It is this concern and love which has made Dr. McNeely a real friend and advisor to Biola students. Moving from Goodland, Kansas at eight years of age, Dr. McNeely came with his family to Long Beach, Cali- fornia, where he later graduated from Long Beach Poly High School. Soon after graduating from Westmont Col- lege, Dr. McNeely married Jean Paton Graham. The McNeelys then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he con- tinued his studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. After several moves involving work as a youth pastor and teaching at the Mid-West Bible Institute, Dr. McNeely, his wife, and their children, Dennis, Kathy, and Mike, came to Long Beach. In 1959 he began teaching at Biola as Assistant Professor of Bible, receiving his doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary four years later. After serving as Chaplain under Destroyer Squadron 21, Dr. McNeely returned to Biola. There is much evidence of Dr. McNeely's true concern about young people today other than his teaching and guidance at Biola. Last summer, Dr. McNeely spent twelve days traveling over 3000 miles on bus as camp speaker for Summer Travel Camp '69. The camping idea was totally new and involved about forty teenagers from three Orange County churches. As Dr. McNeely took the campers through the Book of Acts, their lives were found- ed more deeply in Christ. With Dr. Mac's guidance, the campers not only studied Acts, but also discussed such subjects as Knowing God's Will for My Life, methods of witnessing, and various other religious beliefs, all accord- ing to what God's Word says concerning each topic. After camp was over, Dr. McNeely opened up his home for a reunion of the campers where they could discuss their growth and experiences together. This year Dr. McNeely is advisor to Sigma Tau Chi, a newly-founded service club for veterans in school. His firsthand knowledge of life in the armed forces makes this position all the more appreciated by club members. It is this deep caring and involvement with young peo- ple which lias made Dr. Richard McNeely a man of the times, a man of action. V- E, ,was Y
