In carry- ing out this obiective, the college curriculum provides not only classroom instruction in Biblical studies and methods of evangelism, but also a service program in which the student may gain practical experience by application of the principles taught in the classroom. It is the Christian Service Department, under the direc- tion of Kenneth B. Daniels, which administers this service program of the college curriculum. As Director of Christian Service, Mr. Daniels is to be commended for his many years of devoted work in coordinating the many activities connected with his de- partment. Besides conducting a Christian Service orien- tation class for first-year Biola students, Mr. Daniels also gives part of his schedule over to counseling those students who need guidance in effectively performing the responsibilities of their assignments. Through the efforts of Mr. Daniels and his staff, an abundance of Christian service assignment opportunities have been created by arrangements with over three hundred Christian organizations and churches in the Los Angeles area. Some of the assignments available include: special musical groups, Juvenile Hall work, Hospital Chorale singing at the Los Angeles County General Hospital, Rancho Los Amigos Hospital visitation, teaching Child Evangelism classes and Released Time classes, Open-Air Campaigners, Beach Evangelism, Jewish visitation, and work with the Union Rescue Mission. The experience gained by the students through Christian Service assignments can play an important part in Chris- tian character development and can help them gain that sharp focus on their commitment to the claims of Christ so necessary in being an effective and mature Christian leader.
