Vice-President Robert Appe, Secretary o s THE CLASS OE 1949 The IO-I9 graduating class of Triple Cities College organized on October 22, 1948 and elected otiicers for the year. Edmund Vitkus of Endicott became President of the first Senior Class. Ed, a veteran of the Army Air Force, was an instructor on B-29's. At TCC Ed majored in Accounting, preparatory for a position as a Cost Accountant. Doris jones of johnson City was chosen class Secretary. A major in General Business, Doris in- tends to become a Personnel Technician. Beside being a member of the Pandorans and the Business Administration Club, Doris held offices in the USG for two and one half years. Robert Appe, who was elected Vice-President, is from Middletown, N. Y. I-le is a former Navy Lieu- tenant, held an office in the USG for two years, was the first President of Adelphi, and was a member of the Business Administration Club. As a General Business major, Bob is planning a career as a sales- man. -lerome True, elected Treasurer, is from Syracuse and is a veteran of the Army Air Force, in which he flew twentyffive missions with the 8th Air Force in Europe. jerry is one of the colleges baseball letter- men and is one of the charter members of Adelphi. jerry, a General Business major, is preparing for a position as salesman.

the halls and classrooms and a wider lounge door, but a USG backed football petition was again re- jected as was a plea for a five day week. The student body leaders, under pressure from the students and the student newspaper, investigated conditions in the lounge and bookstore with no starta ling changes resulting. Some changes were effected, however, as the cafeteria installed sugar and cream dispensers and slightly more varied menus. The fall USG also increased the efficiency of the student government by establishing a regular, once-a-week meeting time and eliminating much of the red tape which had hampered previous administrations. It drew up and approved a new constitution for the United Student Government in order to expedite the handling of student affairs. The spring of 1949 saw a hotly contested battle for all of the USG posts for the next year. In the field were the Representative Party headed by John Horkott, the Liberal Party, lead by Denny Bottinog the Student Welfare Party of Tom Clark, and several independent candidates, including presidential as- pirant Joe Baxter. The members of the Representa- tive Party were swept into office, along with three other members-at-large. Barbara Rood, with 313 votes, led all candidates in her successful bid for a member-at-large post in the new administration. The outstanding event of the spring term was the spring weekend planned by the USG. This included a spring formal, the Spring Soiree, an outing, a second annual spring revue, and an open house for parents and friends of TCC students.
