The purpose of the formation of this organi- zation was to make possible the greater enjoyment of winter athletic activities by the students as a group. During the fall term ofhcers were chosen and plans were drawn up in order to provide the club members with the greatest amount of winter sports activity within the limited facilities available. Club- sponsored services included obtaining and showing movies on skiing, skating, and tobogganing to stu- dents. On several occasions, when weather condi- tions warranted, groups of hickory enthusiasts jour- neyed to Montrose, Pennsylvania to use the skiing facilities there. This winter the weather curtailed many activities of the Winter Sports Club. With little continued cold weather and still less snow, many of the planned activities were unable to be carried out. In November, 1946, a group of twenty-two stu- dents formed the Baccacian Society to promote good fellowship and lasting friends. During their first year the Baccacians originated a Gloom Ball which was held just before the week of exams. This year a third annual l'Gloom Ball was held at the Endicott Legion, thus making it the oldest social club sponsored affair on the college calendar. Another Baccacia First is the Baccacia Scholar- ship. Baccacia was the first student organization to grant a cash scholarship.
