THE COLGNIAL NEWS The first edition of the Colonial News of the fall term of 1948 was published under the direction of former editor jim Clugstone. A permanent staff was set up before the next issue, however, under the editorship of Clark Hungerford. His staff, though inexperienced, did a commendable job of writing, editing, and even assisting in the shop make-up of the Colonial News during the fall term. After increasing the paper's income by the addi- tion of several new advertisers, the news was able to expand to six pages, for the first time in its history. This six page form has been used since then except on the occasions of vacations, exam weeks and such other times as a short production schedule permitted only four pages. The News scooped local newspapers on several items of importance to TCC students in- cluding the organization of the Senior Class. Near the end of the first term, Editor Clark Hun- gerford resigned to assume a position with a local newspaper. Managing Editor Ralph Forest assumed the Editorship at this point and directed the paper's activities for the remainder of the term and through- out the spring term. The Colonial News extra of March 3 set a record for promptness by publishing the results of the spring USG election only five hours after the polls closed. Another News scoop was the announcement of the addition of the seventh major which could be obtained at TCC. The staffs activities were climaxed by the third annual publications, banquet in May.

IIIUBHI :filo 29 The reorganization of the United World Federal- ists in January, 1949 was received by an enthusiastic and eager membership. Under direction of the offi- cers and with the assistance of the faculty advisors the UWF took part in many activities during the spring term. Sponsored by the UWF were radio broadcasts over stations WENE in Endicott and WNBF in Binghamton and a bureau providing speakers who addressed various clubs and organizations throughout the community. In the spirit of world service the UWF acted as a co-sponsor for the World Student Service Fund drive and organized a CARE drive. Delegates representing the UWF of TCC took part in the Model Review Conference to Revise the United Nations Charter held March 18 to 20 at Haverford College, Pennsylvania. During the year the Federalists held meetings and discussion groups to acquaint its members with the club's purposes and aims.
