FIRST Row: Jim Johnstone, Les Morgan, Newell Stapleton, Coach John Budd. Slicimsin Row: Jack Jamieson, Al Sanges, Mario Pizzillo, Manager Dick Clinton. GULF The 1948 golf team had, for the second straight year, the best T. C, C. team record in spring sports. The Colonial golfers finished the season with an excellent 4-2 won-lost record. John Budd, pro at the Endicott-Johnson golf course, acted as coach for the Squad. Al Sanges was elected captain of the team after the golfers won their opening match of the season, ISVZ-IOVZ, against the linksmen of Hartwick Col- lege on the E. course. Dick Jamieson shot the dayls low round with a 78. The Colonial mashie-wielders journeyed to Troy for their next conquest. as they eked out a Ji-3 vic- tory over R. P. I. Mario Pizzillo negotiated the rain! soaked course with a low 77. The Green and XY'hite was handed its first loss of the season 6-3 when Hobart College invaded Endicott. The squad also lost its No. three man when Dick Mercer was stricken with appendicitis. T. C. C. took it on the chin again, 10-8, when they traveled to Utica for a match with Utica College. The Triple Cities Linksmen gained revenge for their loss by outputting Utica 12-6 on the En-Joie Workers course. Pizzillo, Jamieson and Sanges were the day's medalists as each chipped in with a 76. Les Morgan and Jim Johnstone both had an off day as Utica garnered all its points from them. T. C. C. finished its golf season at Oneonta against Hartwick College. Pizzillo again led the Colonials to victory, SV2-ZVZ, by carding a 73. Dick Jamieson was close behind him with a 741. The consistently low scores of Pizzillo and Ja- mieson, plus the steady golfing of Sanges, Stapleton, Morgan and Johnstone contributed to a fine record and a successful season.

C.'s victory-less Tennis squad absorbed seven defeats in seven matches. Hartwick netted the first victory 6-5 at Recreation Park in Binghamton. Singles winners for T. C. C. were joan O'Connor and Hyle Richmond, and lone victors for the Colonials in the doubles were George Koury and julian Michel. Hartwick also won the return match in Oneonta, 6-1. Utica College also won two matches from the T. C. C. racquet wielders, 7-2 and 8-l. The R, P. I. lfrosh punched out a 6-5 victoryg Hobart College gained a 7-2 win and Wilkes beat T. C. C. -l-l. One of the highlights of the tennis season was the play of joan O'Connor, T. C. C.'s girl athlete. Miss O'Connor trotted out her best shots against all- male opposition, and was the team's most consistent 10 winner. She won her position among the racquet- swingers by eliminating some of the huskier and embarrassed representatives of T. C. C. male-dom. joan is from Binghamton. joseph Berry, a Binghamton attorney, was ap- pointed coach for the tennis team. Berry, an out- standing figure in Triple Cities sports circles since his high school days, is a graduate of Binghamton Central High School, the Manlius School and Cor- nell University. Last year, Berry and his partner won the mixed doubles crown in the annual Broome County tennis championships. For many years Berry has participated in area amateur tennis tourneys. He is also an otlicial umpire of the U. S. Eastern Lawn Tennis Association.

SECOND ROW: Coach Welborn, Mike Pavylak, Dave Brown, Ted Scarinzi, Bill Walling, Tom Zowine, Bob Hood, Carmen Calenti, Bill Custis, Mgr. BASEBALL Despite the fact that the T. C. C. Colonials shift- ed from high school to sandlot to industrial baseball fields for their home games, they still managed to compile a fair, won 5, lost 6, record for the 1948 baseball season. Four of these six losses were by one run, with two of the games going extra innings. Failure to hit with men on base lost the season opener against the Ithaca College frosh at Ithaca by a score of 2-O. Coach Gene Welborn's team outhit the Ithaca nine, six to four, behind the masterful pitching of Pete Macan, but could not put two blows together. The locals lost a heart-breaking 4-3 extra-inning contest to Hartwick College at Johnson Field. T. C. C. held a 3-1 lead going into the ninth inning, but when the third out was made, Hartwick had knotted the count. The visitors went on to win in the tenth off reliefer Sherman Bletchman, who replaced jerry Flanagan in that fateful ninth. The Green and Wfhite found the formula for victory by knocking off State Tech 14-3 at Johnson Field. Four of the 16 hits garnered by T. C. C. went for extra bases. The Colonial baseballers were limited to two hits as they bowed 5-4 to the Utica College nine in a
