FIRST Row: Fred Hubbs, Gene Kobylarz, Pete Sadowitz, Bill Walling. SECOND ROW: Coach Gene Welborn, Pete Smyk, Vince jackson, Bob lsban, Mike Rano, Manager Rudy Janasak. BASKETBALL Triple Cities College finished the intercollegiate basketball season with a team almost entirely different from the one that started the season. Fortunately it was a much improved team. The won 8 and lost 12 record is not in itself a true indication of the caliber of play of the squad. At the start of the season, Coach Gene Welborn had only two returning lettermen, Bob Isban, third high scorer last year and Bill Walling, aggressive guard. A new individual scoring record was established in the Triple Cities by Phil Sekerchack, lank Wilkes College Forward, as he led his teammates to a 77-73 victory over the Green and White basketeers in their first game of the season. The 6-foot, 5-inch Keystone Stater dumped in 17 baskets from the field and 13 out of 15 foul shots. Ludka, Isban and Leney with 16, 14 and 13 points respectively, paced the Colonials. The Welbornmen journeyed to Wilkes-Barre to lose a 71-55 decision to Kings College. The Kings- men had too much class and experience for the men from Endicott. joe Ludka again led the Colonials with 13 points. T. C. C. gained the winning side of the ledger in its third game of the season. The locals, playing at the Union-Endicott High School gym, triumphed over Keystone junior College, 82-65. Bill Walling led the attack as every man on the squard scored and five of them hit the hoop for double figures. After the game, joe Ludka was elected captain of the team.

CHEERLEADERS With only Edythe Scales, Pat Lamb, and Barb Rood returning from last year's group, it was neces- sary to hold several weeks of spirited tryouts in order to complete a squad of seven feminine cheerleaders, Fran Kozlowski, Bea Thorson, Barbara Meaker, and janet Forbes were the new members of the squad. Ediei' Scales was elected captain of the group. This year the cheerleading squad literally started from scratch . All of the old cheers were aban- doned and some excellent new ones worked out. The fight song written by Mrs. Hopkins-Moses and set to music by Howard Evans, still remains TCC's number one pep tune. The cheerleading squad has come a long way from the one which was formed in December 1945. It has become indispensible at the basketball games and with the cooperation of the student body, has done a fine job of arousing school spirit and interest in the athletic events at TCC. Faculty advisors to this group are Miss Plankin- ton and Mr. Battaglini.

The State Tech Hornets stung Coach Gene Wel- born's charges in an overtime game, 62-61. The action-packed game ended on a controversial note over the timing as the winning basket was scored with four seconds of play remaining. Capt. Ludka and Bob Isban led the losers with 13 and 12 points. A highlight of the basketball season was the four-college cage tourney sponsored by T. C. C. Other participants were Wilkes College, Utica Col- lege and State Tech. The games were played on the State Tech floor and plans were formulated to make this tourney an annual event. All four teams are more or less considered to be natural rivals. The Colonials gained sweet revenge by defeating State Tech in the opening round of the tournament, 40-35. Wilkes College also gained a nrst round vic- tory over Utica College, 62-53. Bob Isban with 13 points and Gene Kobylarz with 9, sparked the fast moving T. C. C. attack in a game played at a ter- rific pace. Height was the deciding factor as Wilkes defeat- ed the Green and White for the tourney champion- ship, in the second round of competition. The Wilkesmen won 51-48 in the waning seconds of the game. Kobylarz and Isban again led T. C. C. with 11 points each. State Tech garnered third place honors by triumphing over Utica, 70-61. Carl Lueb- bert, Utica forward and high scorer of the tourney was awarded the outstanding player trophy. Isban and Kobylarz were named to the all-tourney team. The Wfilkes quintet defeated the Endicotters for the third time, by a 54-38 count at Kingston, Pa. It was the most decisive defeat at the hands of the Pennsylvanians. The game was close for three periods but Wilkes pulled away in the last quarter with 27 counters as against only 13 for T. C. C. Welborn also lost a key player for part of the season as john Leney was stricken with appendicitis before the game. A rough game at the U.
