SECOND ROW: Mr. Richard Horney, Miss Alice Lowry, Mr. John Guley, Miss Helen Murphy, Miss Mary Miller, Mrs. Frances Bochnak CUMMERCIAI. DEPARTMENT The Commercial Department supports a wide held of opportunities for those students who are interested in the business world. Miss Alice Lowry supervises this department. The commercial students have four various branches to select their courses from. These include Secretarial Practice, which differs from the others as it requires shorthand, Oiiice Practice, which is similar to Secretarial Practice, except shorthand is not required, Bookkeep- ing, which trains the pupil for office work, and General Business, which caters to those who have made no specific plans after graduation. Central High is very fortunate to have the valuable equipment with which the students can obtain the practice, essential in their careers. Some rooms are provided with calculators, add- ing machines, electric typewriters, dictaphones, and duplicating machines, while three rooms are completely furnished with typewriters. Not only the students who are looking forward to a business career benefit from the com- mercial course, but also the college-minded students. Central offers the regular typing course or else a special course for seniors. The student taking this receives no grade or credits but is aided in typing research papers, which are required in twelfth grade literature class. f 1 . Just k 1 press this buffon Hunt and peck ll

A study of the different countries of Europe, their beginnings and developments, is also made. The Dark Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the wars of European countries are some of the topics studied. At the end of the year, a regents examination is taken by the students. American History is studied in the junior year. This course is aimed at giving the students a better understanding of their country. The Colonial Period, the America Revolution, the Con- stitution of the United States, and our relations with other countries of the world, are only a few of the various topics studied. A school examination is given at the end of the year. In the first part of the senior year, students complete the study of American History. More emphasis is placed on events which have occurred during the last 50 years. Current events are also topics of discussion. A final review is made, and then the students take a two-year state regents examination. Nimbus ' founded .1800 - ' ' Accordin9 'O co The U.N- was from Uno I0
