Mr Henry Merz Mr. Robert Deyo, Mrs. Kaye Russell, Miss Margaret Frear' Athletics is an important part of every Centralite's life. Under capable instructors, students are taught the fundamentals of many sports. For both boys and girls there are programs of intramural activities including archery, life-saving, hockey, soccer, badminton, volley- ball, tennis, basketball, and baseball, There are j.V. and varsity teams of football, basketball, baseball, track, golf, and swimming. In health classes taught by Miss Anna Bloom and Mr. loseph Vavra, students learn the physical and psycho- logical functions of the mind and body. They also become acquainted with good grooming and nutritional habits. Each student is required to study healthg since it is important to everybody, no one regrets this. If a 'student knows this sub- ject well, he can live a much happier and healthier life.

eated: Miss econd Row : Commercial One of the most popular pro- grams at Central is offered by our science department headed Mr. Donald Doc Roehm, and including Mr. john Grace, Miss Kathryn Hyland, and Mr. jo- seph Vavra. Courses are avail- able in chemistry and physics, these classes are highlighted by laboratory periods in which many fascinating experiments are performed. Under the able direction of Miss Katharine Miller this course covers typing, shorthand, business law, business arithmetic, bookkeep- ing, business machines, and other es- sential knowledge needed commer- cially. In addition to students entering business, those pupils who plan to enter college will find typing and shorthand very helpful. A special course in typing is offered to those not registered in the commercial courses. Because of the expert train- ing, Central students fmd excellent opportunities in the business world. Miss Grace Holcomb Drivin .. ua-sf Miss Elizabeth Stanford, Mrs. Lillian Perkins. Central High's Art Department offers a storehouse of wealth to anyone interested in an art career. The first course, general art, in- troduces the student to all phases of art. A stu- dent wishing further in- struction may enroll in costume, advertising, de- sign, or any other ad- vanced course. The en- tire art department is under Miss Grace Hol- comb's capable instruc- tion. One of the easiest and most convenient ways to get places is by driving. However, in order to drive, one must have a license. Central offers a very thorough course in driving which is ably taught bv Mr, Andrew Harris, The main aim of this course is to help stu- dents become safe and more skillful drivers. Everyone taking a home economics course benefits from it. Central students are offered the chance to participate in an up-to-date homemak- ing program. Future homemakers learn how to plan and prepare nu- tritious meals, as well as fundamentals of interior decorating, p 1 a n n i n g budgets, etiquette, child care and good grooming. Male students may also take this course, but they concentrate mainly on cookery.
