This means answering phones, printing the daily bulletin and special notices, handling all correspondence, ordering supplies, and running the bookroom. Work in the main office is competently handled by Mrs. Edna Mc- Davitt, Mrs. Jennie Herrick, and Mrs. Mar- jorie Hebbard. The secretaries in the coun- selors' offices are Mrs. Florence Houpis and Miss Margaret Linehan. Attendance records are taken care of by Miss Catherine Keenan and Mrs. Mary Brown. The health room is under the supervision of Mrs. Mary Donahue. Mrs. Genevieve Driscoll has charge of the bookroom, while our school accountant, Miss Lela Rogers, keeps our finances straight. The history department headed by Miss Mary Gillespie strives to acquaint us with the peoples and cultures of the world, and to teach us the duties of responsible citi- zens in a democratic society. Sophomores study world history, while in the junior and senior years students trace the growth and development of our own country. Seniors pursue current events in our own country in addition to completing their study of American history. Il Cl V I 1 r '-ii' Q Knowledge of foreign lan- guages is becoming more essen- tial every day. To cope with this need Central offers modern languages such as French and Spanish. Latin is also taught to the students. Under the direc- tion of Miss Loretta Murphy these language classes not only teach the native tongue, but also stress the history, back- ground, customs, and current aifairs of the country. To be- come better acquainted with the language which is being studied, outside reading, oral plays, and conversations are frequently used. lt is of great advantage to all pupils to take at least one foreign language.
