Johnny, a boy typical of all those who have left their school to serve their country in its hour of need, returns home to his Alma Mater. The building is far from beautiful or inspiring, but it suddenly fills with meaning and encompasses a lifetime of memories. His worn copy of Cicero's Orations has been re- placed by a gun, complacent day-dreaming in study hall by tense alertness in a muddy ioxhole, the warm smiles of school friends by the grimness and horror of war. But now Iohnny is home for a brief respite from battle, and in this short time his eyes will drink in the nostalgic sights which mean so much to him. Let us meet Iohnny as he enters the building and escort him through Central's cor- ridors as he relives his carefree school days.

The following are the courageous words of one of the greatest men America ever knew, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. They were delivered to the American people as a prayer for our nation on the eve of D-Day, Iune 6, 1944. Ourpresident died for his country on April 12, 1945, but he did not die in vain nor will he be forgotten. His noble deeds and fearless words will always remain an inspiration of hope and faith to the world. The Panorama Annual Board of 1945 is proud to dedicate this book to a great man and a sincere friend of humanity. Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty en- deavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true: give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, stead- fastness in their faith. f'With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogances. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace-cl peace invulner able to the schemings of unworthy men.
