Homecoming Campus Crazies Run Wild: sn’t That Special Homecoming week has been called many names such as Spirit Week,” Freak Week,” and a nuisance. It is an ideal time for the average straight-laced student to go wild and make his statement of individuality. Each and every day focused on a new way to be crazy. Monday was proclaimed college sweatshirt day, and each student wore the name of his favorite school in many colorful letters. On Tuesday, everyone took a nostalgic journey to the golden days of the fifties. Poodle skirts for girls, and letterman sweaters for guys were the rule. Wednesday brought an even further step back in time to ancient Greece. Students rolled out of bed and took their sheets with them, pinned together as togas. On Thursday, the tunes of the Beach Boys and the Surf Punks could be heard as a hoard of beach bums overran the campus. Suntan oil reserves were depleted for days afterward. On Friday came the traditional Red and White day complete with a parade, pep rally, and football game. At the pep rally, the annual Mock Homecoming took center stage. Students and teachers alike came out in drag, flaunting overstuffed figures and tripping on high heels. Reigning over the bodacious court was Queen Keith Marsland I, and her escort, Lynette Mattina. Chosen as Maid of Honor was Beau LaRosa with her escort Sarah Hulbert. Tears fell from the eyes of the winners, while shouts of laughter rang from the spectators. The pure enjoyment of the activities made Spirit Week a success — and isn't that special. A Senior Bridged Medina shows off her well-tailored toga in a characteristic Olympian pose. Homecoming • 29
