Biloxi — 100, Hattiesburg — 0 Yeah, That’slheTicket Optimism. That is the only word to fully describe the atmosphere at Biloxi High during the week before homecoming. All of the past defeats seemed to leave the mind of each member of the student body as the fateful night approached. Class displays were readied, escorts rented tuxes, and maids made their final decision on what they would wear. Clubs and organizations prepared floats for the annual homecoming parade, and Student Council members got ready for the upcoming dance. The football team was readying itself, and practicing strenuously to make their Indians proud. The Indians felt that this was the game that they would win. They would do it for homecoming. They would do it to regain their self respect. The citizens of Biloxi did not lose respect for “their team,” either. Hard-core supporters could still be found in the stands at each game, even when there seemed no hope of victory. Homecoming was no exception. Even with this support, it did not quite come together. The Indians lost the game. However, homecoming is not exclusively an Scott Scheming. Jana DeGrafft 24 • Homecoming athletic event. Biloxi had much to be proud about during homecoming. The students were able to take pride in the fact that Biloxi High is by far the best school in the state of Mississippi. So, in fact, the score was Biloxi —100, Hattiesburg — 0.
